Does anyone know of a good safe helmet that won't make me look like Marvin the Martian? I've heard the Head Trips are good, http://www.carbonfiberhelmets.com/dot.htm but is this legit? Their site is a little scary looking. Any other companies that make good low profile half helmets?

I think the broom sticking out the top might be a bit of a problem.

At one pound the Head Trip would be my choice for touring through states that do have a helmet law. Head Trip does have DOT certified helmets.
One of the non DOT Head trips is on my wish list. Simply cause they are so light in comparison to most other half helmet designs.

Yeah, those not DOT Head Trips are sweet. I want a DOT just so I know that my noggin will be half way protected but I don't want to look like the headless horseman while I'm doing it. Is this too much to ask for? Are all half helmets huge? I've ordered two, a Rodia and a Bell and they were both the same. I live in Tallahassee so there's not really anywhere with a good selection. I may have to make a trip to Panama City to try a few different ones on.

Irony is........
I'd love a helmet like Marvin.
He's nearly as cool as Shawn.

He's just very misunderstood. But I'm not going to go on and on....I'll get accused of hijacking the thread. (But I have a Marvin sat in my living room and at Christmas he get's replaced with one in a Santa outfit...)

I have a Head Trip DOT half helmet and it's excellent! Their customer service is also wonderful. They went out of their way several times to make sure I was happy. You won't be disappointed.

Well, since Gina likes Marvin D' Martin looking guys I think I'll stick with my helmet:) Actually, it sounds like Head Trip is legit despite their illegitimate looking site. I think I'll give them a shot. Maybe I'll make an offer to design them a new site too.

A Head Trip is on my list as well. Keeps getting pushed back due to my need for new pipes, windvest, lightbar, etc...

I have a head trip helmet that I use whenever helmet laws rear their ugly head...Most of the time you forget your wearing it...it is very light, comfortable and very easy to pack...and you don't look like a mushroom when you wear it...I would recommend getting the earpads...I sent mine back to have them installed after having it a year and they sent me a brand new lid

Cyrus, You might want to check out the Daytona brand helmets. I have one of their DOT half helmets. I'm not much of a helmet guy and really had a hard time finding one I could wear for any length of time due to neck problems. The Daytona helmet definitely the lightest and smallest of any others I could find. Head Trip, Daytona and Nexl all make their shells in different sizes as opposed to other manufacturers that make one size shell and add thicker foam to it to make it fit a smaller size.

no one is as cool as Shawn...except, maybe for Gromit, and he has a helmet already, right?

i can vouch for head trip. once you get the strap adjustment down; they are a 'pleasure' (relative term here) to wear. The DOT rating is legit and they are very lightweight.

Those Daytona helmets look pretty good, for 1/4 the price as the Head Trips...may have to take a look at one of those.

They do look good and the price looks good too. Wish they had a photo of someone wearing one.
