I'm really not sure how well those will work when they have no direct contact with the oil. It could be that crankcase temp is a better thing than oil temp to know anyway. I do have some misgivings about having to lean out and look down to see the guage, but there are other equally bad problems with the electric kind that have a sensor in the drain plug.
