Here is the response i got from the folks at the Watkins Glen race track in regard to Ryan setting up a day at the track for us:

Quote:

Hi Pat,

I remember speaking to Ryan about the ride... Which day would the group
like to be here? How many bikes do you expect? We will have a window
each day from 12pm to 1pm or approx. 5pm to 6pm, depending on how the
day goes for the customer on Saturday or Sunday. It's an SCCA racing
event - closed to the public, but still a race that could go overtime.
Thursday and Friday should be more firm with the 5pm - 6pm window.

What we can offer is 3 paced laps at street legal speeds, as part of our
Thunder Road Tour Program. There's no passing, etc., we try to keep
things very safe. Normally we don't allow bikes - but we'll make an
exception for this group! The charge is normally $25 per car, we'll do
it for you for $10 per bike. Each person will have to sign a waiver
before the "tour" begins...

So, I need to know how many are interested in doing this.
Also, be warned! as far as I am aware, as soon as your front tire touches the track your insurance is totally invalid, as is your health insurance!

Pat, count me in! Question though: Does a passenger count as a ten buck toll? If so then two. If not than one.

My understanding was there would be no cost, so I say bugger off. However, if the majority still wants to go, I'll participate. Sorry I cannot do more, but these tracks are somewhat autonomous unless it is a big, big issue. I love all of you, but I cannot consider this to be a big issue! Gotta choose my battles!

Ryan,
No sweat as far as $10 each is concerned. A small price to ride the track as far as I am concerned. Then we can go have a brewski at the Seneca Lodge on the way out.
I just think this is pretty cool, thanks for gittin 'R dun fir us!

I checked into it a little further, and the event day is causing the cost. Can't have others wondering why we didn't pay when they had to pay! A private SCCA event might be fun to watch for few laps too. Bring on the Seneca Lodge!

Happy to see some chatter on the big rally. I can't wait for the "official" thread. Wish it were next week instead of two months away.

Hey Moe, is Lynn planning on flying up? Jennifer, I think, is actually going to grace our presence and would be interested in having a travel/drinking/talking buddy. They could share a car from Rochester, etc.

Doubt it but you could go as fast as you like on the road - cost you plenty though!

Ryan, Well we have to do something. Lynn ain't gonna ride all the way. Di wants to fly up too. Isn't Ade supposed to be in the area caging it up North too? Maybe we could gace the women and wait, give ade the keys? Maybe not Just kidding Ade. Whatever the gig, we roll I-77. Could go to Chy then EnglishYankees or just meet up in Colombia. Heck, Rolling to Chy's then meeting up with Greg worked for Greg and I last year. Sounds like we need to get the womens on an aeroplane bound for Rochester NY. Or somewhere in line with our northerly route. That way they could serve a chase vehicle for a couple hundred miles or so.

For you flyin in folk, it is usually a LOT less to fly into Buffalo or Syracuse than Rottenchester.
Buf/Syr airports are each about 60 miles away.

I am showing $168.00 round trip from Orlando to Rottenchester on Delta. One stop at JFK, Atlanta, or Cincy. That is pretty good.

Moe, we aren't going through the mountains this year?

Oh yes we are. If we ride the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Skyline, we should take the 77 slap to Fancy Gap VA. Now if we ride up to Chy's first, we will roll GA route 15 to Dahlonega. Than traipse over to Gregs then pick up the north slap to the BRP. Once again on the mountain routes. When we get to Front Royal we could avoid I81 and maybe ride US 340 to Frederick then roll up US15 into the land of yankees.

If you can, take route 23, it's beautiful! We came back that way and it will be our route of choice from now on. I-81 SUX!!!
We shot from Chy's over to Gainesville where we picked it up and you can take it all the way to Columbus, ohio, then hop on the slab to NY. Just a thought.....

Be advised that Watkins Glen is a Sparks Free facility.

Whew, glad to hear we will see some scenery and not just the slab.

I don't recall much banking at Indy. Daytona has 31 degree banking in the turns and 18 at the start finish line. Talladega has 33 degree banking! I guess for motorcycling any banking seems like a bunch. The cops and the superbikes are the only bikes allowed on the high banks of Daytona. Suits me just fine!

I am in.

I think it was about 6 hours last year ,
but that was with some rain and a wrong turn.
And I live on the state line, may take you about 1/2 hour
longer.
