I thought real Triumphs were only made in Coventry.
And, real Harleys have generators on the front of the engine.

....And BOTH needed a rebuild after say.....25,000 miles or so.
Call me "New Wave Harry", BUT...I'm sure glad MY Bonnie America has an DOHC motor, a balance-shaft, AND a gear-driven primary(that was ESPECIALLY for you, GB) , AND doesn't shake half it's bolts loose while motoring down a modern Interstate.
(BTW GB, I know you were only kidding too, and I thought this line of your's pretty funny)
Don't get me wrong! If I won the lottery "tomarra", I'd have a passel o' old classic bikes of ALL vintage and makes sittin' in my garage, including a few Japanese bikes(guess who THAT was for again?) , BUT...this idea that I hear every once in a while about modern machinery, of ANY make, not being a..."REAL Whatever",("the thing ain't got no bevel-drive, so it ain't no real Ducati") even insinuated in jest, shows a lack of appreciation for "progress", for want of a better word.
And don't forget people, the reason the British bike ceased to be, for all intents and purposes, and why Harley Davidson almost met the same fate, was BECAUSE this same mindset had become institutionalized in England AND Milwaukee.(to say nothing of Springfield, MA and points beyond)
In other words....I love my '70 Bonnie, but wouldn't even THINK of riding it half the distance I would my '02.
Cheers, Dwight (oh, and BTW Chris...GOOD RETORT!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)
