Apparently you can screw a child but Zod-forbid you get caught SPEEDING. And don't you DARE harm a CRIMINAL... "Police have been instructed to let off with a caution burglars and those who admit responsibility for some 60 other crimes ranging from assault and arson to sex with an underage girl. That is, no jail time, no fine, no community service, no court appearance. It's cheap, quick, saves time and money, and best of all the offenders won't tax an already overcrowded jail system." "Not everyone will be treated so leniently. A new surveillance system promises to hunt down anyone exceeding the speed limit. Using excessive force against a burglar or mugger will earn you a conviction for assault or, if you seriously harm him, a long sentence. Tony Martin, the Norfolk farmer jailed for killing one burglar and wounding another during the seventh break-in at his rural home, was denied parole because he posed a threat to burglars." http://www.estatevaults.com/bol/archives/002791.html

If you elect the wrong people to office that is what you get. One day perhaps the British will decide to elect politicians who will enforce the law and punish criminals. Perhaps they need to study Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County Arizona, or Rudy Gulliani from New York City.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

That comment is true but as less than 50% of the population actually vote... no matter who we vote for, it doesn't seem to make any difference.
If you commit a real crime it doesn't seem to matter. The human rights of the criminal are paramount apparently.
There recently was a case of a man who sexually assaulted a 3 year old and could be out in 5 years...that has caused uproar, but will anything get done about it??? Probably not.
However, don't speed, go through a red light, or anything else where there's no 'victim' as they'll throw the book at you.

I'm just baffled and bewildered. It's like some twisted version of the maxim, "Two wrongs don't make a right." Except it embraces another maxim for the original victims, "Adding insult to injury."

Looks like the worst crime is to flout the authority of the state. Minor violations that show less than a complete deference to the authorities right to regulate your life are punished swiftly and surely. On the other hand, violating the rights of private citizens can be tolerated as it does not threaten the prerogatives of the state. Mugging a private citizen is tolerable, but since law enforcement and punishment are state functions, vigorously defending yourself from a mugger is not. Raping a child does not threaten the sovereignty of the state but speeding apparently does. I was recently talking with a friend who is the police chief in a neighboring town. I joked with him that if I called 911 and said that an armed intruder was in my home I’d be put on hold, but that if I said “I’ve locked myself in my home, I have a gun and I’m not coming out,†the police would be right over to make me surrender. The scary thing is that he agreed!

Hey Adey,
I don't think you should use "arseholes" and "rip'em" in the same sentence.

One young bloke has actually run over three people, killing one of them a young child and hurting two others, the first one he got a fine, second he got a fine and third he got a fine.. Some laws need to be changed...
Just glad it was not one of my grand children otherwise I would of invoked an "eye for an eye"

The answer is simple. If you intend to ride fast, stuff some stolen goods in your pocket or hire a 14 year old to ride with you.
You know, this all makes sense only of you look at it from the viewpoint of a politician. Arrest a criminal, and you have to have a very expensive trial, then feed the bloke for years. Traffic tickets, on the other hand, hardly ever go to court. The vict... ah... dastardly criminal, walks in, pays up and is gone. The government gets a couple hundred quid and it only costs maybe a half crown of some lowly clerks time.

Remember when you unload both barrels on the burglar and blow him back out the front door you absolutely have to drag him back into the house before the police get there or you got some splainen to do.

Ok this is as good a place to rant about this evening as any, and I apologise in advance....
I did my place of employment a favour. I enjoy my job and do favours for them as I get them in return. (I should have been on a really $hit job on Sunday, but they've given me a nicer one instead). [oh and for those who don't now I'm a Guard on the Railway]
This evening I've been on quite a long day, but it was what is usually a simple train out of London. I check tickets and can be a mean cow if you don't have one. The whole "It's expensive to buy one on the train" routine, but being a girl I get away with it. This evening someone decided they didn't want to pay. Well they did, to the second station. After they'd told me they wanted the 3rd station....Being the mean cow that I am, and having a sneaking suspicion that he was not going to get off, I walked back to ensure he got off. He saw me and instantly 'fell asleep'. Funny that eh??
He was not going to pay, but was just as adamant he was not getting off. And got aggressive. I walked away. Travelling without a ticket is a criminal offence....I think it is in most places. I spoke to a manager, and ended up calling 999 to get police involved. After 20 minutes and a secondary call to see where the hell they are, a solitary policeman shows up. I'd told them he was agressive, and 20 minutes.... The policeman (even a Sarge) spends a further 5 minutes trying to get me to take him on to where he wants to go!!! And the arsehole is still not prepared to pay!!!
It is minor stuff really, but I'm paid to ensure several things. One is the safety of everything to do with that train. I have this bloke who is aggressive and liable to blow his lid at any mo. And the policeman want to enclose him in a tin can.
Can you all see why I didn't want to take him any further???
I know I'm in a position where I take the rough with the smooth and this really happens less to me than you think, but when it does and then the authorities don't seem to give a $hit, it gets to me.
I'm sorry to rant here, but it's nearly 2am here and most sensible people are in bed. I need to get it out, and you lot are the only ones out there to me at this silly hour... And typing this lot has meant that the glass of wine I poured literally as soon as I walked though the door hasn't gone down too quickly...which is a good thing as I would not have enjoyed the wine....and would have just got pi$$ed on it, and it's nice wine...
And I've already warned the people at work I won't be doing tickets tomorrow....and I'm even later out of London tomorrow...

I think you handled it well. Working in jails for the last 8 years I deal with people who outright refuse to follow rules and regulations on a daily basis, so I can totally understand your frustration.

Back to my evil ways at work today....but my ticket machine packed up....oh well will have to be doubly evil tomorrow! And I am a pussycat really. Just I have this evil twin that goes to work in my place and I collect her wages.
