The Sceptres are slightly, and I mean SLIGHTLY less loud than completely open pipes. They just have a deeper rumble to them. If your JCWs are too loud for you, the Sceptres most certainly will be too. The guys I ride with have Sceptres and custom made straight pipes. The Sceptres are far louder than any other pipe. I get to the point where I need to stay in front of them all the time or I get a killer headache, even with earplugs/iPod on. Ed's pipes he made are not as bad as his open pipes he used to run. All the guys that came to the NorEast rally last year can attest to how loud Ed's bike was. You really could hear him coming from several miles away.
The D&Ds are a little less loud than the Sceptres.
Maybe check out the Bub slashcuts. They are loud, but not obnoxious like the Sceptres are.
And of course, let us not forget the Thunderbike pipes. Plenty loud when you need them, but peaceful enough not to get a noise ticket.
