bonjour jean-luc,
c'est la meme choise ici...switching to english, i served with a helicopter squadron at CFB Petawawa (where i'm pretty sure you spent some time too, eh?) and a reserve infantry unit (NSaskR)...i was asked if i wanted to re-enlist, and was offered rank of 2Lt again, but get this..because of the time i have been out, i'd have to do BT again and then RMC for officer re-training...i'm getting a bit long in the tooth for that, i'm afraid...lol...yeah, i could see me rolling around in the mud with 20 year olds...i miss some of the fun and adventure and camaraderie, but i've got a good, secure job, and enjoying biking and making new buddies in the biker scene...think hard about how much you really miss it...you've put in more time than i have...what about training or NCO/IC of a reserve unit as a choice for you if you really want back in?

More and more, the Republican party is unable to discuss policy or ideas. They were very effective with character assasination during the last Presidential election and I believe it has become SOP for Republicans to resort to personal attacks (truth be dammed) to deflect criticism and opposition, and to avoid discussing important issues. It will bite them in the arse. Then we can critcise and oppose the Democrats .
That's kinda what I meant earlier. Me calling myself either a repub or a demo is one thing, but citing specific examples of yahoos running their mouth and then generalizing that to all the "leftist" or "liberal" or "commie" or whatever is pretty much irrelivant. THEY chose to be called a democraot or whatever, the party didn't always pick them for the job.

Really? So the personal attacks on Bush were excusable but the ones on Kerry were not? Ann Coulter needs to be excoriated but Al Franken can say whatever he wants? Democrats are experts at political hardball, Republicans are just now beginning to play that game at anywhere close to their level. Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid get on TV every single day and get nastier with Bush than Newt or Bob Dole ever did with Clinton. Michael Moore got a hero’s welcome at the 2004 Democrat national convention after releasing a rabid hate screed directed at Bush. As for ideas, what are the Democrats going to run on this year? Except for opposition to whatever George Bush or the Republicans in Congress propose they have no policies or ideas. Their only discernable policy is to stymie all legislative action and then blame the Republicans for getting nothing done.
Was there an issue in there . Or are you just trying to prove my point? If so, good job

Actually you proved MY point. You made baseless charges, offered no examples and failed to answer the obvious point that was made. Like a mugger who is outraged when he is beaten up by an intended victim, lefties routinely accuse Bush and the Republicans of everything from planning the 9/11 attacks to stealing milk from babies. But, when the ridiculous accusations are exposed as not only false but slanderous, they howl in indignation. “How dare you point out my lies, hypocrisy and slanders. That is a personal attack and an assault on my character.†When the party of James Carville, Michael Moore and Al Franken complains that they are the victims of character assassination it fairly reeks of hypocrisy.
I had the same thing happen in my last campaign for the legislature. My opponent had voted against a bill outlawing partial birth abortion. I mailed a flyer to every household in the district explaining exactly what partial birth abortion was (including diagrams) and that she had voted to allow the practice while I would have voted to outlaw it. This was a recorded vote and my mailing included footnotes. Despite that, she had her father come out on the radio saying I was engaging in personal attacks against his little girl. How dare I treat her in such a shabby manner. Obviously they thought that holding her accountable for her vote was just wrong and exposing her to public questioning about it was a vicious attack.
We have an old joke in the Republican Party that holds a great deal more than a grain of truth. What is the definition of a dirty campaign? When Democrats lie about us or we tell the truth about them.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

Yep! And I also noticed that YOU(my old "loyal opposition") have exhibited this same restraint TOO lately. Cheers, Dwight (I guess as one climbs that "corporate website ladder", as you have recently, one becomes a little more immune to stuff like this, huh?!)

Well Dwight, believe it or not, after a while, it get's kind of tiresome, ney, boring, ney, OLD!!! How many times do I have to hear sworn testimony that W and every Republican Senator and Congressman has the 10 Commandments and the US Flag tattooed on their butt, despite the glaring reality that in the meantime they are voting to give defacto citizenship to a large portion of 12 million or more people who broke the law to come here. You know, I found out a long time ago, if you beat your head on a wall, the only thing it achieves is a headache, rarely does it produce positive results. Besides, my best friend, who has always been a staunch Republican and W Loyalist now rants against the Republicans the same as the Dems, and although she won't say anything BAD about W, does admit he might be a standup guy in person whom she still likes a lot, he doesn't belong in the White House(her words) I mean, geez, if I can't tease her anymore, what fun is there....

Greg, don't you find it a little ironic that the conservative view is to let more people IN and the "liberals" are saying no? I dunno, just seems backwards to me. And almost like shows the randomness of the issues that each side chooses to support, ya know? I'm in now way challanging you, just an interesting observation...

I wish I could say I find anything our beloved elected officials do "ironic", but words like self-serving, greedy, traitorous, twisted all seem to jump to the front of the list...

Fascinating. UM, what baseless charges would these be that you're referring to, Larry? I've never accused the Bush administration of planning 9/11 or stealing milk from babies (though we could explore that one), and your implication that I did is nothing but a lie. Exactly what I expect. (Seesh, talk about HYPOCRISY). My references were to the usual way (which you are exemplifying yet again) of avoiding discussion of any issue where you hold no moral high ground by diverting the debate to, oh let's see....Michael Moore, Al Franken, Jane Fonda, whomever. They are irrelevant. Re-read my original post to which you responded. My reference was to the typical way in which a decorated combat veteran is slandered by the right wing, because they know how dangerous he is to their agenda. That's what the swift boat liars were all about. Kerry is a decorated veteran, Bush and Cheney both avoided service in Vietnam through deferments and family connections. The same thing that the right criticized Bill Clinton for. It was therefore necessary to defame John Kerry in order to counter the obvious advantage that he had in that area. I thought my implication would be obvious to all but the most doltish. And don't get me wrong, the Democrats have done their fair share too. Robert Bork and Clarence Thomas come to mind. See, now you don't even have to think, I did it for you. You want to discuss issues? GREAT! You want to call names? Grow up.

Yeat another hijacked thread sacrificed at the altar of stupid politics. I wonder how many would agree with me that all I am hearing is:
blah-blah-blah bush sucks blah-blah-blah liberals suck blah-blah-blah conservatives suck blah-blah-blah dems suck blah-blah-blah your ideas suck.
Go hijack another thread because this one is done.
[I really thought I could make a semi-political humorous post, one that all factions could laugh at. WTF was I thinking? -FJ]
