More and more, the Republican party is unable to discuss policy or ideas. They were very effective with character assassination during the last Presidential election and I believe it has become SOP for Republicans to resort to personal attacks (truth be dammed) to deflect criticism and opposition, and to avoid discussing important issues.
It will bite them in the arse. Then we can criticize and oppose the Democrats .

Really? So the personal attacks on Bush were excusable but the ones on Kerry were not? Ann Coulter needs to be excoriated but Al Franken can say whatever he wants? Democrats are experts at political hardball, Republicans are just now beginning to play that game at anywhere close to their level. Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid get on TV every single day and get nastier with Bush than Newt or Bob Dole ever did with Clinton. Michael Moore got a hero’s welcome at the 2004 Democrat national convention after releasing a rabid hate screed directed at Bush. As for ideas, what are the Democrats going to run on this year? Except for opposition to whatever George Bush or the Republicans in Congress propose they have no policies or ideas. Their only discernable policy is to stymie all legislative action and then blame the Republicans for getting nothing done.

Was there an issue in there .
Or are you just trying to prove my point?
If so, good job

Actually you proved MY point. You made baseless charges, offered no examples and failed to answer the obvious point that was made. Like a mugger who is outraged when he is beaten up by an intended victim, lefties routinely accuse Bush and the Republicans of everything from planning the 9/11 attacks to stealing milk from babies. But, when the ridiculous accusations are exposed as not only false but slanderous, they howl in indignation. “How dare you point out my lies, hypocrisy and slanders. That is a personal attack and an assault on my character.” When the party of James Carville, Michael Moore and Al Franken complains that they are the victims of character assassination it fairly reeks of hypocrisy.

I had the same thing happen in my last campaign for the legislature. My opponent had voted against a bill outlawing partial birth abortion. I mailed a flyer to every household in the district explaining exactly what partial birth abortion was (including diagrams) and that she had voted to allow the practice while I would have voted to outlaw it. This was a recorded vote and my mailing included footnotes. Despite that, she had her father come out on the radio saying I was engaging in personal attacks against his little girl. How dare I treat her in such a shabby manner. Obviously they thought that holding her accountable for her vote was just wrong and exposing her to public questioning about it was a vicious attack.

We have an old joke in the Republican Party that holds a great deal more than a grain of truth. What is the definition of a dirty campaign? When Democrats lie about us or we tell the truth about them.

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.
