Poppy, I also try to acknowledge drivers at side streets whenever possible for not running me over.
Just today a car started out of a side street as if to pull out directly in front of us. He had not seen us. I had to lock up the brakes for a few feet. Fortunately there was no harm done. The Speedmaster seems to respond well to rear wheel lock-ups, maintaining a straight line.
Curiously, when he did pull out behind us he stayed w-a-y back. Maybe, just maybe, HE learned a lesson he won't forget soon.
