Dinqua, I've used EZ Pass in no less than 6 cars and never had a problem.
That includes driving the NJ Turnpike at the speed of light and not being ticketed.
Sounds like your friend has a faulty transmitter. He should get it replaced, or have it "stolen" to avoid future trouble.
