To most people, PERCEPTION is 9/10th of FACT today. So unfortuantely, when a famous Superbowl winning QB CHOOSES to ride sans brain-bucket and then when some idjet "law-breaker"(probably a very law-abiding individual otherwise) makes that ubiquitious left-turn right in front of him(we've ALL been or are going to be there) then the News Organizations are going to make this a "cause celebre", because he's "famous".
That's the way it works nowdays, ya know. More PEOPLE today read "PEOPLE" than the friggin' "U.S. News And World Report", my friend.
