I have lived in N.M. (Albuquerque) for 46 years now and have never been to Portales but do know it's more desert terrain than the northern part of the state which is more mountains and much more scenic. The weather is generaly pretty good and not much snow. I would never leave New Mexico just for the reason of the green chili !!!!
