Its Steubenville tradition the best part about it is that no outsider can stand it
When you walk in (carryout only) you order by the slice
dude reaches in with his bare hands to throw the cheese and peperoni on it. It is a multipule oven set up. No belt driven stuff here!
Cheap and good every time I am back home I have to have it its like crack you need your fix

Fav pizza in Worcester was the B. Not that it was actually good pizza, but it was a block from school, cheap, and was attached to the bar/restaurant and always full of ladies.

There's SO many pizza places down here's it's hard to choose, but Nunzio's in Babylon is pretty good. They also make deep fried calzones

I'm with you Fishercat. The absolute best pizza I've ever eaten was a little shop in Strasburg, PA in the late 80s, early 90s. If I go to Pat's NorEast rally this fall, I'm takin' YOTA by there for lunch. Their stromboli is pretty good too. I think the shop name was something like Pizza City or Pizza Village. I know it's on a corner on Main Street.

You guys and gals from New York kill me. You think everything you have is the best. Whether it's bagels, pizza, deli's, hot dogs, etc, etc....

I've had pizza in Long Island, NY and it's good but no better than say Chicago or Boston or any other place for that matter. In fact the best thin crust pizza I ever had was in Providence, RI.

Ron, didn't they tell you LI was the center of the universe? My old roommate in college is from upstate, he used to joke that if you put an outboard motor on it and sent it out to sea, Long Island wouldn't even notice. NY does have some awesome pizza, but the thing is not EVERY pizza joint is the best, so there's plenty of places to get not so good stuff... I happen to like thicker, greek style pizza also cause I grew up on it. More of a flavor thing than texture thing for me.

Currently Pizza by George in Raymond NH, incredible stuffed pizzas. In college it was the cold cheese in Plattsburgh, they would mound extra cold mozzeralla on slices, or the pizza rolls in Canton NY, a pizza rolled up and deep fried, I'm sure Stone has tried them.

I don't eat all that much pizza, except when travelling with kids (human beings younger than me). There is a spot down the road 60 miles in Hope, Idaho called the "Hope Icehouse Bakery & Pizzaria". Yup, it's on Lake Pend Orielle and originally was used to store lake ice for refrigeration. Word has it the properieter/owner used to be an Italian chef in NYC and for some reason moved to the panhandle, East meets West. The male employees all seem to favor "Rasta dreadlocks". East meets West meets Carribean, while the women employees seem to favor clothing favored by my peer women friends back in the late 60's, early 70's. East meets West meets Carribean meets "Have a groovy day" There are lots of windsocks and twirling things hanging off every available spot and blowing in the lake breeze. I believe the "Groovy day people" are in charge of decor.

Oh, the food? I have had a number of items off the menu and they are all pretty good. Two weeks ago I took a spin down there for the enjoyment, scenic views and a cup of coffee. The waitress said "hardly anyone ever comes here just for coffee". I can't ever remember crazier words uttered in a cafe'/icehouse/bakery/pizzaria. I had to mention this to her, but was smiling just the same. The Rasta cook was very impressed with my Triumph.

My favorite style is woodfired. There aren't a lot of woodfired ovens around, but, if you get the chance to try it...DO IT! My son used to operate the woodfired pizza oven at Jojo in Rochester, NY and the pizza was truly awesome!

Although I usually prefer thin crust, best pizza I've had was in Jever, Germany. Very different deep dish with lots of tomatoey juice to it. It didn't hurt that I was really hungry that day, and drinking the Jever Maibock while eating definitely had something to do with liking the meal so much.

I've been reading up on doing my own pizza on a stone in the oven. Best tip I've seen is to disregard those $35 pizza stones in the cooking stores, and just get an unglazed piece of floor tile and put it on the bottom of my gas oven. Also want to try to on the grill with a stone over the fire. Just haven't made it down to Lowe's or Home Depot to pick up a couple of pieces of tile.

I'm kind of disappointed that Airguy or Steve_Sixmile don't chime in, so I'll do the favor here, and throw out a nice DEEP dish Chicago Pie. Thin crust NY pizza, come on, get serious. I wanna meal!! Unfortunately, there is no such place down here in the Carolinas, so a distant 2nd runner up is NY Pizza here in Anderson, the ONLY decent pizza place around for I don't know HOW many miles. Everything else is a crappy imitation of Papa Johns or Dominoes! SPIT!

actually, it just hit me after I posted, there are 2 others. One, crazy as this may sound, was Navy mid-rats pizza. When we were at sea for a while, after a while the meals got to be really crappy, after the real milk ran out and we had powdered every-freakin-thing, and Bug Juice, every so often the mess cooks would make up pizza for midnight rations (mid-rats meal at midnight for you non-Navy pukes!) Probably just because of the other crap we were eating, it tasted AWESOME, freshmade dough, tomato sauce and grated cheese, nothing fancy, but great. Another was this little restaurant with a pizza place in the basement in a little village in a forest in Switzerland. When we would land in Zürich and drive to Aarberg, we were bushed, and we always made a beeline for this place. Woodfired oven, small village atmosphere, tall glasses of cold Feldschlösschen beer, and a Pizza Margherita (nice tomato cheese pizza with sun-dried tomatoes), man it was good, great memories to go with it... Wish I could hop a plane NOW!!!

Greg,

Been chomping at the bit to say something here. Just figured I didn't want to sound like a pizza snob or something like that and hadn't figured out a way not to. Chicago style deep dish rules. Connie's, Giordano's and myriad other little mom & pop shops around. I have a place called Michael's near the house that does a pretty good pie. Even our thin crust is a bit different from anywhere else I have had pizza. Biggest difference is we put the cheese on top of everythng. From bottom to top it's crust, sauce, ingredients (sausage, mushroom, onion my fav (all fresh of course)) and then butt loads of cheese. Throw it in a proper pizza oven and 35 minutes later you have a masterpiece. That's the proper way to do a pizza. Oh yeah, unless it's deep or thick crust, you don't cut it in slices, you cut in squares. Now you know you got Chicago style.

I typically don't get pizza when I am not in the windy city area. Ok, I've said it. I admit it. I am a freaking pizza snob. Now, would you like to discuss the proper carbonated malt beverages to go with this?

Some of that stuff the cooks could come up with at night was pretty good. Either that or we were too tired from watch to tell the difference. Although, after I got out of the Navy, I didn't eat chicken for two years.

squares are the way to go. Airguy mentioned the best deep dish style. For my money, the best thin crust is in Champaign, Ill. at a little place called "the Jolly Roger". So thin you can almost see through it with the freshest italian sausage you can find. I can eat two larges myself.

Oldstyle, Giordano's, and the Bears (Lou Malnati's is real good too).

Soren, I suspect it was a combination of the tired-ness, a change from the powdered eggs/milk/poop that they normally served on our boat after 2 weeks out (that was about the time that everything fresh that we had jam-packed into the boat ran out, and we began digging into the Korean War era powdered stuff). The first 2 weeks of a patrol were pretty good, good food, real milk, then it spiraled downhill to bug juice and powdered milk (of course always making sure to set aside enough bug juice to descale the Oxygen Generator as needed, really brings truth to those SNL spoofs of the Floor Cleaner/Dessert Topping stuff) And if we were lucky enough to pull into Holy Loch, or Belgium, none of that "Milk, Powdered, Mil-Spec 12534523423, 45lbs" crap, it was only brand name Cadbury chocolate, fresh milk, man-o-man...

Oops, sorry, I think I started to hijack here....

My favorite Eyetalian food as of late is not Pizza but an Italian beef sandwich on a French roll served at "Rosatis"

This place is right next to LA Fitness where I work out four or five times a week.

Its just a big ole sandwich loaded with Italian beef, topped with mozarella cheese and a side of au jus. goes down easy and so tasty after some exertion at the gym.
