maybe some of you have seen me refer to the Roadhouse??? its just a given that i will be there on wed. night, the wife knows it, the kids know it, my friends all know it. its a beer, wine and food joint out on the blvd with the best parking lot (horseshoe shaped around bldg.) and a runway (as i like to call it) that comes straight out from the front door for about 30ft where he has some tables, chairs with awnings. there is a 10min oil change next door that closes at 5 and that lot is adjoining the roadhouse lot, sooooo this place can accomadate 5-600 bikes easy (and it has) with room to spare. they make the best sandwich in town, its the size of a takeout styrofom platter (fills it) and has whatever you want on it with lettuce, tomato...all the trimmins for like $7, its a sandwich for 2 with a special vinigrete sauce YUM YUM!!! ANYWAY about 4 yrs ago i went to the bartender (whom i'd known for 10yr) and discused the idea of a bike night, his response was that we needed to talk the owner (whom i'd known for 10yr) into it. at first the owner didnt really get to excited and thought it might be some kinda hassle (you know how them BIKERS can be) but after some convincing he relented and let us have our way. but it was up to us to get the word out. in just a little over 3 yrs it has become THE place to be on wed. night!!!!! needless to say there are some people in the immediate area that dont like all the noise and have done all they can to stop it. After owning this new place of his for about 4yr the owner (Jimmy who is a bit older than some) decided to sell, about a yr ago in comes new owner, he kept bike night it has been by far his $$$$$ makin night. but sometimes when you buy a bar you dont get the land, you lease it, and the owner of the land is not gonna renew the lease aaarrrgghhghhh i talked to the new owner and he is livid!!! to say the least, i guess when he purchased it from Jimmy he was told he would be good for maybe 10 more yrs. its only been about a yr and they wont renew the lease????? both Jimmy and John put alot into what used to be a bagle shop to become the one great place bikers could go on wed night or a sun bike wash or after runs to benifit a charity!!!! believe me... there is not another place like this place around here. i feel like i'm loosen my baby hahahahahaha there are people talkin about where else we could meet, but there will be no place like this place!!!!! i guess its true... the only constant in life is change!!!!!!

ENJOY!!!!! NEWT!!!!!

I know just how you feel. I was poking around with one of those satelite map web sites the other day looking for places I've been, and realised that everything I have ever known is gone.

I've always thought that building on leased land was kind of a weird concept.. my family has some land we lease out near the Univ. of Tennessee that has structures on them as well (one is a bank), and I've often wondered what would happen if we decided not to renew the lease. Does the structure become property of the land owner in that event? If so, does the landowner just get it for free or must they compensate the building owner for it? I guess it depends on what was written in the lease contract as to how it's handled..

Anyway, bummer about the place. I know how such weekly gatherings can become addictive

PS: It does seem however that the 'new guy' should have examined the land lease documents _before_ purchasing the place, so he should have known it was coming up for renewal (and perhaps contacted the land owners to confirm their intentions). I know that would have been a big red flag for me if it was something I was considering purchasing!

Cheers,
Brad

Looks like its time for you to start up your OWN business. Find a location away from any houses and start up a nice roadside food joint.

Makes me think about how we would ALL feel if this website suddenly vanished.

That would be a SAD DAY, indeed.

Maybe you can get enough people to get ahold of the land owners?
