After riding in the Rolling Thunder event this past weekend, I decided to take an extra day off from work and ended up on a day trip to OC (Ocean City, MD) on Tuesday. Laid out on the beach for a few, had some really good seafood at one of the local restaurants and walked down the boardwalk for a little while. It turned out to be a very relaxing ride. On the way back I noticed the speedo had finally cracked the 40k mark. I started thinking about all the great times, people I’ve met and places I’ve gone since I bought the bike bake in 5/02. I’ll I can say it’s been a great 4 years……

A congratulatory shot of Fred and his bike:

Welcome to the club Fred! On Monday I rolled over 40 thou on my Speedmaster. And like you, I went out for a solo ride to accomplish the feat by riding the long way to Tombstone for breakfast. It was a gorgeous morning in the 70's, no clouds to speak of, and very little traffic on the road. On my ride I thought about my trips to the Salt Flats, Prescott, New Mexico, and the 10-12 trips to Tombstone. The next day I changed the oil, did some chain cleaning, and washed the bike...getting some more one-on-one time with the bike.

My wife commented the other day how much the bike has changed me since I bought it. Before I bought my Speedmaster I was wearing knee braces and had a sour outlook on life. But since getting my Speedmaster, and one of my knees replaced, my attitude is a lot better. I never realized how much I missed riding, and I thought it was something I wouldn't be able to do again. I'm sure glad I took a chance.

Hurry up MOE!
Fred & SalMaglie are catching up with us. I am embarrassed, as I only clicked over 43,000 miles Wednesday.
I've got to ride more. Been too busy to ride this Spring, but I'll get some more miles soon.

You are right. I sold my other 2 bikes back in 1985 and got out of riding because I was too busy doing other things. I finally got the bug again and started looking at what was out on the market. Checked out all the other brands and finally decided to swing by and check out what the Triumphs looked like since my last one was a 68 Tiger. Fell in love with the America and the rest is history. I too never realized until I got back in the saddle again how much I missed riding. There is just something special about this bike...

Congrats Fred, Sal, and all of you other high milage guys and gals. My Speedy is my first bike purchased in Sept 04. I am just short of 11k trouble free miles. It makes me wonder how many total miles you guys have ridden in your lives.

I don't know if I'd be riding again if I hadn't come across the new Triumph twins. Always wanted a classic looking Triumph, and the forward controls made it possible. The way the bike handles, it's relatively light weight for a cruiser...you're right, our bikes are a bit out of the ordinary, and a joy to ride.

I put 30K on a 81 Kawasaki 1000LTD and sold it in 1992. In Aug 05 I bought my America, just went over 5K and I hope to reach the 40K mark. Let me rephrase that! I will reach 40K on my TBA. It is definitly a better ride than I had before.

Heck I don't even know how much I have. It is around 47. Been so busy with the kitchen and then with the oil pump in one of those cursed mopar cars. I will never buy a chrysler again. Nor a dodge. Chrysler sucks. Oil pumps, cooling fans, evaporators, need I continue? 56K, 7 years old, immaculate interior. chrysler can kiss my bony old hairy butt.

Now Vera Lynn is another story. hehe. She kisses my grits and fries my bacon!

Yes, the moments in time to look back on. Vera rolled to 40 at Pat's house during last year's Nor'East Rally. She'll most likely roll 50 at this year's rally. I could wax and wane regarding all the events during the last 4 years and eight months. Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Canada, New York State, Maryland, Virginia, and all states in between (Florida). Great. Now I want to ride. Thanks guys and gals.

As much as you and Moe ride, I never thought I’d get anywhere close to you guys mileage wise…

I'm really jealous. I was going to roll 40K on this years Georgia Rally and then I got all blowed up. Even if I do get her going again this year it won't be the same heart and soul of an engine that was the otiginal. Boo hoo!

Fred,
Maybe it's me & Moe (Moe and I) gettin' old. It hurts to get off after a long day in the saddle. Feels much better to go ahead, gas up and ride to the next gas stop. MrUnix is getting there too. He turned a 2 day trip into a straight through ride up to Dahlonega. Say it ain't so, Brad.
