In the last couple of weeks , either on the news or in the paper, there were 6 separate accidents involving a cage either turning left in front of bike or pulling out in front of one, a couple of fatalities, and some serious injuries. In EVERY case the driver of the cars were females between 17 and 25, I'm starting to see a trend! Since i've seen this i've been watching young female drivers and have seen them putting on makeup at 60, talking on cellphones, eating, and doing just about everything but paying attention. Ihave no beef with young females,[ my 15 year old daughter will be driving next year,] but god I wish they would take the responsibility of driving more seriously. I hope this "trend" doesn't continue.

What annoys me, is insurance companies still charge young males more than young females. Teenage boys drive way faster, but at least they pay attention.

Unfortunately it is that time of the year when there will be more new drivers out on the road. A lot of women think that they are multi-taskers. That may be true in most cases. However some of them think that multi-tasking means that it applies to every situation or you do not have to prioritize where you are putting your attention.

I have always thought that was wrong about charging girls less than boys on insurance. Maybe it is because guys drive more?

over the last SEVERAL years my boss and I (we spend many hours on the road and don't drive slow...more likely to pass than be passed) have noticed that if some one is ON YOUR A$$ (to the point were you cant see their grill in the rearview) and FLYING it is FAR more likely to be a YOUNG (18-25) female driver chatting on a cell or otherwise distracted... ...

Also weve noticed that 70% or more (in our totaly un-scientific annalisis) of woman who drive red sports cars are...um...overwei...obea...fat!
OH and woman (girls, chicks, mebers of the female persuasion) who drive Jeep, Scramblers, Wranglers, are ...prett...attract...good loo...HOT!

Like I said we spend ALOT of time on the road!

I'm not gonna get involved in a bash women drivers / riders (of any age) - that's a can of worms that's best left firmly closed!!

All I'm gonna say is that over here, women drivers (of any age) get cheaper insurance because they are considered a safer bet ..

It was always cheaper to include my wife on MY insurance, even for a car she would rarely use and be unfamiliar with.

I've followed several cars being driven by young women who were putting on make-up while driving along.
Once was at 80+ on the motorway

I learned most of what I know about driving just from being observant cause I WANTEd to drive, so I paid attention when my dad was driving.

Rob, my own very unscientific observation that I'll stand behind, the VAST majority of Silver Jettas are driven by hot chicks. Try it out, I bet you'll agree with me

Another scary thing, aparently in NY you don't HAVE to take driver's ed?!? Is that true? In VT when I was growing up you had to take it or you couldn't get a licence till you were 18.

Our main insurer uses the stevens driving school as a supplamental drivers ed. I havent taken the class yet, but the drop in accidents with kids who take the school is amazing. I'm doing it with my 16 yr old brother this summer. The focus is on highspeed control, and responsability. www.Skidschool.us

My son already took drivers ed in school , hes 17 and got his licence, my daughter has her whole school career mapped out and is taking driver ed in 11th grade, I'm constantly pointing out other peoples driving mistakes[ sometimes with yelling and hand gestures] and both my kids have ridden on the bike with me and know the responsibility it takes to operate a motor vehicle. My son just got his 1st road bike, a 650 yamaha maxim, so now I'm twice as nervous.

In the "Ripley's, believe it or not" panel in today's paper there was a guy who was in a car accident. They found his severed arm with a cell phone still clutched in his hand.

You hit the nail. It's not 17-25 year old female drivers,
it's 17-25 year old female drivers talking on cell phones. How can anyone be so stupid as to try and operate a 2 ton vehicle with one hand and carry on a conversation with someone who's not in the car. Sorry folks, no one has enough sense to do that. NO ONE!!!

Yep. Same happens here in Cali.

I get to drive around SF and stuff that I see puts things into a different perspective. Most of the time I think, "What would I do if I were on a motorcycle?" Unfortunately, I live close to route 82, a state highway. The most dangerous zones are the ones that are next to the shopping centers. Please do not be offended, but when women come out of stores all excited about their shopping... I tend to stay away

I had a road rage once... I was going straight when a woman was making a left turn while talking on a cell phone and not looking at the road. Instead of going straight I floored and swerved into her car. Good thing my breaks were good. This was a stupid move, but at least she dropped the phone. This was a stupid move, but at least it was me in a car, not somebody on a bike. Getting hit from the side sure does suck.

My solution to a problem is easy: Nobody under the age of 18 should be able to drive a car. Once people turn 16 they should get motorcycle or scooter licenses. Ride for two years, then get into cars. This will serve us as follows:

1. Stupid people will die soon. Since it is hard to do a lot of damage on a bike, unless you ride a Rocket, idiots will kill themselves easily. Also, bikes can fit two people tops (unless you have a side car), so its fewer deaths per vehicle.

2. Smart people will learn that SUVs have to share the road.

3. We will save on gas and promote motorcycles. Hopefully, this will lead to less traffic and cheaper gas prices for all of us.

I see the only problem so far: It is hard to get laid on a bike.

Maybe I read your post wrong but if you floored it and rammed her car on purpose than you may be a greater danger on the road then a woman on a cell...sorry if I missread your post

the best ones are the ones of ALL AGES that hold the cell phone to thier left ear while merging on a freeway. left hand/arm blocking the view to the left to merge. no one knows what "yield" means anymore
