The moderators have conferred ad infinitum and this is basically what we came up with:
We could create a list that would be a PITA to maintain (or a PITA to create a database application to manage it) and nobody wants their personal info on it. We could not guaranty the security of the info. At face value is seems like a good idea but someone desperate to get it off the ground should start a new website dedicated to it. It can't be incorporated into the existing forum software and we don't have access to the BA.com server to develop something like this. So it would have to be done elsewhere anyway.
Being a small group, we already have pretty much everyone elses cell numbers in nearby areas/states. If anyone is going on a longer trip he/she should make it known ahead of time on the Lounge and/or Rides forums and ask for volunteers to bail them out if needed. Personally if I were traveling somewhere new I'd post a message here for people along the way for social reasons, not just potential rescuers.
Ultimately, anyone so concerned about the reliability of their bikes should get some kind of roadside assistance insurance. This is usually included with most insurance policies anyway.
