Someone should set up a volunteer help list that the members on this site can use to call for help if their bike breaks down close to a volunteers home. If you are within 50-60 miles of Tulsa, I'll be more than happy to come out and load your bike and person in my pickup and take you where you can have repairs made. Or we can take the bike back to my place and repair it there.....Angelis

This is a good idea. I noticed that BMW publishes a book listing the members of the owners association of people willing to provide help when broken down in their area and you are riding a BMW.

Remind me of this after I get my hotrod truck finished and established that it's reliable.

great idea. Too bad we don't have it set up here today when I had the bike towed home. Would have towed it to the dealer but they closed last Friday. The good luck just keeps coming...
Oh, why the tow you ask? The unfortunate result of truck avoidance. Someone flying out of the Hard Rock Hotel that didn't see me. Me - no gloves, t'shirt/jeans, fake skid lid. NO serious damage but I'll be the scraped up and bruised limping guy for a little while. Don't know about the bike yet.
Be careful out there!

Sorry I can't be of any help to anyone from my location. I would though, be happy to offer assistance, be your guide, loan you one of my bikes if anyone were to be in the region.

Good idea. I was thinking of a similar thing a little while ago because we have one for our RAT guys. I also had this for an international car club I was in years ago and you were able to put yourself into catagories such as: mecahnically able, could offer transport / ride, could speak X, Y and Z language, non-mecanically able but could off support and a coffee etc!

Hey guys this has been discussed before. If you belong to AMA there is already a nation wide program (Sorry jolly old England) It is called Help-N-hands and it is free to AMA members. Also if you donate something to the program they send you a Patch and a pin. If you are mechanicly inclined and or own a trailer you add your name to a secure 1-800 directery and your name and number are kept secure. Everyone that belongs gets a card with an 800 number for anywhere in the USA. The problem of any new program is the security issues with phone numbers and addresses. AMA also has a program called MO-Tow, just for towing motorcylces. Moderators might want to check this stuff out before starting a new program. Just my nickels worth guys, not trying to burst anyones ideas! Steve

Well, who ever sets it up should should set up a place for where we can leave our phone # and village/town/city and state, so anyone out touring the country can print the list of the members in the area that he/she's passing through to keep on hand for emergencies.......Angelis

If this can be done - it should be in a secure area on the site that is only accessible to registered members who have contributed their info also.
Count me in. I plan on at least one road trip a year and if anybody is ever in the greater chicagoland area.....

That sux. I wouldn't have been able to help unless it was after 6 PM. I'm pretty inaccessible at work. I hate riding in that area, too many tourists, gawkers and drunks . Were you on Paradise or Harmon? Hope you at least got his tag number.

The moderators have conferred ad infinitum and this is basically what we came up with:
We could create a list that would be a PITA to maintain (or a PITA to create a database application to manage it) and nobody wants their personal info on it. We could not guaranty the security of the info. At face value is seems like a good idea but someone desperate to get it off the ground should start a new website dedicated to it. It can't be incorporated into the existing forum software and we don't have access to the BA.com server to develop something like this. So it would have to be done elsewhere anyway.
Being a small group, we already have pretty much everyone elses cell numbers in nearby areas/states. If anyone is going on a longer trip he/she should make it known ahead of time on the Lounge and/or Rides forums and ask for volunteers to bail them out if needed. Personally if I were traveling somewhere new I'd post a message here for people along the way for social reasons, not just potential rescuers.
Ultimately, anyone so concerned about the reliability of their bikes should get some kind of roadside assistance insurance. This is usually included with most insurance policies anyway.
