Kevin,

All I can say is that my Pop was of that "Greatest Generation" also. He was in north Africa with Patton. He was at Monte Casino. He was at "The Bulge". He received a total of 6 Bronze Battle Stars during that time.

Coming of age during the Great Depression he started with vitually nothing, and died about two years ago with a net worth of well over a million dollars in assets by adhering to his principles of hard word and honest communication.

And, I remember asking his opinion, just a year short years before he died, about Mr.Brokaw's book title and that moniker that has now become fixed to that generation of his.

His response?!

"That's BS, in order to sell books and tell people what they want to hear! We probably weren't any better than any other generation. Remember one thing....MY generation killed more friggin' people in a 6 year span than any other's ever did!"

That was what I always liked about the guy. He didn't believe in ANYBODY's BS, and saw through the illogic of over-generalizations!(like: Liberal=Bad, Conservative=good)

Cheers,
Dwight
(miss ya Pop)

Dwight..I would have loved to sit down with your dad and knock back a few beers with him. He sounded like a great soldier and great American. Boy...the war stories he could have told...
