ok, here's my story...got mike sr.'s (oldmike) holesaw from Bob (talcecom) a week or 2 ago...since I only have a 3/8 drill, I rounded up a 1/2" drill from a buddy...but before I received the holesaw from UPS, I was impatient and remembered seeing a few posts about how some guys wiggled, bent or pounded out their baffles...so I thought I'd get a jumpstart on things and I did this (to my stock pipes)...I quickly realized that mike's holesaw was not going to be much good to me now, so I went out and bought a 3" holesaw and an extension for it...no good either...by bending, wiggling and pounding out the baffles, I warped the sh!t out of the baffle plates...the holesaw wanders WAY too much on the uneven surface. So I decided, what the hey...lets drill out the TOR's, they're too quiet for me anyway...That went smooth as anything, and I love the sound. My wife and I went on a ride for Cystic Fibrosis today, about 200km round trip...it was cold and windy and cloudy and rained a little bit, but was good...I'm very happy with the drilled out TOR's. So, to wrap this up, the holesaw is now available to the next person who wants it. PM me particulars, I pay shipping, as it was paid to get it to me.

edit: just in case I wasn't clear, I DID use mike's holesaw to drill out the TOR's, and it worked very nicely.

What difference does this do to the sound of the pipes. I know this is hard to explain in words but give it a try. Are they a lot louder? Do you have to wear ear plugs now? How about rejetting??

BikerT, the sound is throatier, with a definite increase in volume, without being too loud, in my opinion. I really, really like the sound. I used to wear earplugs on the highway anyway, even with the unmodified TOR's...the new helmets I got for us have removable earpads that I use for highway driving, so I no longer use earplugs...the new sound is not overpowering...I haven't yet tried driving in the city with the earpads removed, though.

I rejetted (130's) when I removed the snorkels and installed a UniFilter...I don't think I'll need to go larger until I install a Freak...hope this helps.

I had my standard pipes drilled out - mine're slightly different in that I've had TWO baffles drilled and had bigger pipes welded in but it's a similar sound.

I recorded before & after soundfiles - you can hear them here.

Both are the same bike, on the same day. Recordings are taken in my garage, from about 5' behind the bike.

Matt

hi Matt, yes, I've seen and heard your pipes on here. I actually wanted to have mine done just lke yours...they were the pipes that made me decide to try this. I wanted mine done professionally like yours, but had trouble finding anyone here to do them, even though you had sent me plenty of info. So ultimately decided to do them myself, but kind of buggered up. But, like I said, I'm really happy with the modified TOR's.

Is the holesaw still available? I scored a set of used pipes off ebay, so now I dont have to worry about screwing mine up.

Just so we all know the hole saw is on it's way to Loco. Then Dill. I drilled my Tor's 1 baffle with some great help from Old Wolf and he was right. I trusted him and now I am as happy as can be. Sound is lower and just a bit louder.

hey Darryl, I just took out the rearmost one...I like the sound, it's not real loud, but deeper and more throaty is how I think I'd describe it...when you roll it on hard, it doesn't sound like a HD with straight pipes, but it's louder and I think it sounds good...

Dad gum Matt... those are some of the sweetest sounding pipes I've ever heard! It would almost be worth it to buy some stock pipes off of ebay and ship them to your guy and have them modified the same way. I've heard some of the pipes a guy over here modifies (sells them on ebay) but your's sound way throatier and with a much deeper rumble. Really, really nice job!

Well I went and drilled out my rear baffle with a 2 1/2 inch hole saw(I think a larger one would have walked around less but I had a 2 1/2 in the tool box) and I would have to say this is indeed the sound I was looking for. Sweeeeeeet deep rumble , thanks for help Old_Wolf.

Dill - you are next in-line for the saw - please let me know if you still want it.

Thanks.

Jeff

you're most welcome, Darryl...glad you're pleased with the sound...it's so nice, so distinctive...no mistaking it for a Harley at all...

Hey Old_Wolf! Would you suggest drilling around the small pipe as well as the outer ring of the TORs, leaving you with a donut shaped ring. Then working the little pipe out with pliers? Also did you use oil to lube the holesaw as you drilled? I've been thinking about this change for my TORs as well. Thanks for the info.

Ian
