Passed along to me by one of my Harley ridin' buddies, a Dyna owner rode a friend's 06 America and posted this at v-twinforum.com. I took the liberty of highlighting significant points. ------------------------ My best friend picked up one last week and he let me ride it for a few hours last weekend. I thought I would "share" my impressions on it with ya'll. Since I'm used to my FXDX, the Bonnie was initially much lighter, much quieter and generally less "impressive" the first time I sat on it. However, the perp twin provided an interesting feel much different than my HD or how I remember my old VMax. Other than the turn signal's being single switch push/button reset on the left side only with the horn on the right (trust me it worked quite well for announcing right hand turns), the controls were pretty simple to accomodate. The foot controls weren't the most ideal for my 6'5" frame, but no bike really is with factory seats and controls.
My first few miles on it was mostly spent trying to make the best of a bike I wasn't used to. The power/weight ratio is significantly higher than my Dyna, so "short shifting" wasn't the best route on this one. But all in all, it scooted along much better than I had expected. Brakes were smooth enough and required little effort. What surprised me the most was how "nimble" the bike was compared to my FXDX... I made a sharp U-turn with little effort or worries and even found myself purposely doing the side to side routine. It most certainly does not fall into the "Harley look-alike" category, you would have to be blind to not tell it is most certainly "unique". Kinda peeved me that I got more "comments" on this bike than mine....of course it wasn't comment's like "bad**s bike", more along the lines of "Triumph is making bikes again?" from the older riders.
Truth be told, I ain't trading in my Dyna for one of these anytime soon...But it's a cool ride!!!!!
Anyway, my .02 --------------------
Pretty much what we've all experienced with our bikes.

Interesting comments but I'm sure the America was pretty much stock if it was quite. It probably had stock pipes. I wonder how many times someone told him his Dyna was a bad a** bike? Considering there is 5 million of them running around.

Always good to hear an "others" viewpoint - good or bad. I like that it was fairly good. I don't want to intentionally start the usual Hardly bashing thing here, just want to take the opportunity to share a joke with you.... Quote:
Considering there is 5 million of them running around.
With regard to the above..... "90% of all Harley's ever sold are still out on the hiways" was once proclaimed by a "high up the food chain" Hardley exec (in a show of Harley reliability) BUT, was met by a sharp witted retort of ..... "What, they just leave them there?"
Aussies have got.....BUNDY RUM!!

Well, truth be told, I just bought a 2006 America - traded in a 1995 Honda 1100c "ACE" Shadow. The Triumph is my second bike. The first is my 2003 Harley Ultra. Two bikes, two types of rides. Commute and travel.
Be well, all.

The truth be told, he had to say that to save face with the others. In reality, he is drooling and secretly plotting and planning a away to trade in that Dyna for the superior America, without anyone noticing.
Cool review!!

I'd like to take him up to Hwy. 180 in the GA. mtns. and whip his FDXDXXXXXFSDFASDFSADFASDFSAFSD's butt, while working the Trump turn signals to perfection! Ride Safe on a Friday!

It seems to me that the triumph riders around here feel the need to prove something to the Harley guys, Why is that? Cause hes got his own opinion and his own taste in mc's? Cause he spent more money than them and they want to say they're right and he's wrong? Cause they like Harleys better than Triumph, Who the f&^% cares? The only thing I can think of is jealosy, why would anyone care if a Harley rider likes his bike or not' He ain't paying for it. To me this Harley bashing crap is chidish and getting old, no ones picking on any other brands so I guess the conclusion is Jealousy!

I would like to know where all these harley guys are that are talking down about bikes, I've been to Daytona, Laconia, Sturgis, Americade and dozens of local events and i dont see it , Maybe back in the 70's and early 80's but not now. Go to a harley forum and find a thread about what Triumph riders think or Honda riders or whatever riders think, you aint gonna find one cuz they aint worried what someone else thinks.

Come to Long Island sometime.... I get lots of compliments, but I also get the "nice little bike" or just plain old eye roll.

Not the EYE ROLL!! Those dirty rotten no good r$#tg^&uh buzzards. But seriously I' m around Harley riders all the time , and yes some of them are from Long Island but I really think the attitude about Harley riders is just stereotypical nonsense from days gone by. I went on a PGR mission yesterday . There were about 150 bikes, most of them Harleys, people from Vermont, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Canada, and all over N.Y. The group I rode with was 5 Harleys 2 Hondas, and my BA, not a harsh word was spoken about anyones ride. Like I said I run into Harley riders from all over the US and things have changed. I also know I'm not gonna change the way people think, so those of you who think harley riders are down on you, oh well, I dont carry that burden, and I would bet im in contact with more Harley riders and bikers in general than most of the people here because the motorcycle world is what my life revolves around at this point. Just enjoy what you ride and try not to throw the 1st stone.

Stone: Why are you so mossy about this? I agree with you that I have NEVER had a Harley Hugger make any other than a complimentary comment about my Triumph to my face. However, I also think that most of the comments about Harleys made here are with tongue in cheek - and I know I can only speak for myself, but I'm pretty certain of that for most others here as well. Roll on, Stone. Roll on...

I always hated a one sided debate or fight, I believe in point, counterpoint. Harleys have been a big part of my life, both riding them and hangin with the people that ride them. Theres a couple of people around the site that defend harley but not many. And i'm really trying to keep my debates motorcycle motivated . and stay away from the political crap. Mossy , interesting term

I think (know ) this has been said before but perhaps it needs repeating...the older (read real bikers) Harley owners I have encountered have had nothing but nice things to say about my ride...including the proverbial they still making those..... BUT I have noticed some of the newer (read POSERS) looking down their noses ...but then they're posers so what the fu(k do they know!!! Even had one tell me "there are only two kinds of riders those who own a Harley and those who wish they did" I so wanted to see him lay his "baby" down when he almost lost it backing up to leave... BUT nothing but respect (like Stone said) from those who Really ride for the love of riding... Stone just an observation...it could be that you havn't encountered this because you ride with GENUINE RIDERS

People who ride for the LOVE of the ride...not those who make-enough-so-I-bought-this-bike-now-I'm-cool riders...
And it has NO age barrier...while looking for a bike a year or so ago... I ran into a kid (early/mid 20's) (man I remember when 25 was my death knell...but I digress) ANYWAY this kid and I are discussing diff bikes (he's a salesman at a local HD dealership) and I say "love the look of...bike, but man that's alot of jingle"
He says "yeah it aint cheap"...and follows it up with (and this is a GENUINE RIDER THOUGHT) "keep lookin dude cause when your ****** is on the seat and your hands are on the bars it doesn't make a sh!t bit of diference what your on so long as your riding"!
Then, conversly, here in the "live free or die" state we have no helmet requirement (for those over 18)
I see this joker(late 40's mid 50's) with brand new HD and a painfully OBVIOUS lack of riding skill with the leather vest (which I do own two of)brandy new HD t-shirt, NO helmet, sneekers AND PRESSED JEANS (must have been out of cool boots at the HD clothing store) trying to look cool as he wobbled away from the line, AND missed a shift ...this clown should have dressed like the fargin Michelin (french spit) man...but then that wouldn't look "cool" would it

Long Island is like a weird microcosm of sorts. There are a LOT of posers here! And a LOT of "kids" who go riding down the freakin LIE off one side of the bike, or wheelies, or whatever. And I also think there are a LOT of people who buy a bike cause all their friends did. Maybe it's the population density, but I think it's different here. And Stone if you know guys up there FROM Long Island that's different, the GTFO and a probably a lot different than the posers down here.
And I have a hard time faulting people for getting a bike cause of gas... Maybe they have always wanted one, or thought about it for a while, and the gas thing is a good excuse...
