A friend of mine wanted to rent a horror movie. I told him that horror movies do nothing for me. They don't scare me at all. I am more into a psychological thriller. My question is this, what movie have you seen that creeped you out more than any other?

Not a good movie or even slightly scary, but it pops in my head, anyone ever seen a movie called Motel Hell? I thought the movie was FUNNY, especially when they prepared to pull them out of the ground.

No I'm not psychotic, a little nuts maybe.......but who doesn't like to have the crap scared out of them once in a while?

Rick

A movie that creeped me out was "Open Water" A film about a couple accidentally stranded in shark infested waters after a commercial diving boat screws up.

The idea of bobbing in the water with little or no hope of rescue and having to wait for the sharks to finish you...definiteley gives me the creeps. The film has the right amount of psychological seat of the chair combined with visuals that just make me want to look away.

The Flying Saucer! Made in the early 50's. About a guy who invented a flying disk and his assistant plotting to steal it. The disk in the film was real, a ground effect machine built by Avro.

The original Friday the 13th. Since then, any horror movies that have killers who wear masks creep me out.

The Day The Earth Stood Still was pretty good for it's time ... or am I just thinking of the bits when the robot shot the laser thing from his visor, that spooky music ...

3. "Wizard of Oz" - I think I was 18 before I stopped bailing out during the flying monkey scene.

2. My sister made me watch something called "The House on Haunted Hill" when I was 8. Or maybe it was called "Hill House"??

1. "The CBS Evening News with Dan Rather". I prefer to get my news from SNL Tina Fey.

John,

Are you sure your number-2 there isn't...."The Haunting"...?

When I first watched this Robert Wise directed (BTW Adey...as you probably know...the same guy who directed "The Day The Earth Stood Still") haunted house movie back in the '60s, it scared the bejeesus out'ta this kid. You really never SEE anything on screen that's so bad, but the SOUNDS that the collection of character who stay in that house hear are REALLY frightening, and Mr.Wise allows the viewer to use his imagination in order to get the effect he wants.(a lost art, it appears)

Cheers,
Dwight
(BTW...an inferior remake was made a few years back with way-over-the-top special effects, and the ONLY good thing about it was.....CATHERINE ZETA JONES...VA-VA-VOOM....was in it)

How about - The Last House on the Left - 1972

Not for the faint at heart. The best scene in the movie was when the mother avenged her daughters killing by biting off the killers favorite organ. Actually a pretty sick flick. A lot of controversy after this film was debuted. Banned in some countries. Directed by Wes Craven.

Man I like scary movies, Alien(s) ... Have the box set.. love all the Night of the Living Dead movies.. some are hilarious.
I've kinda lost my taste for pshcho killer movies in my later years though.. people that stupid probably should die...(kidding)(maybe). But Open Water kinda weirded me out.. anyone who is a diver and doesn't feel that way just ain't thinking about it. Not being the top of the food chain does not make me feel warm and squishy..
I have a standing rule when diving....Keep an eye on the Dive Master.. they ain't going nowhere without him.

Fall of The House of Usher wigged me out when I was 7 years old. It was shown at summer camp, on a dark and stormy night, in a building the rattled and shook with the thunder.

I think that was when i first exhibited symptoms of insomnia. Plus some kid put bubble gum in my hair and a counselor cut it out with a huge pair of scissors and gave be a dang bald spot. imagine what THAT did to my raw and maleable psyche

Dwight You're Correct,

I called my Texas sister and among other things asked her about that movie, yup, "The Haunting", with Julie Harris. The scene where some unseen evil force is literally bending the door off it's hinges blew my young, impressionable mind, but then I was only 8 or 10, and that was like 30 years ago.

I saw one of our local wierdo misfits (according to Justice court) riding a canary yellow valkyrie the other day. That was pretty scary also.

The Audition.

When I was a kid..the original "The Haunting" with Julie Harris/Clair Bloom. When I was really young... the 1954 classic - Target Earth.

Ok, creepy, not scary. Let's try in the order that I saw them:

"Wizard of Oz" - flying monkeys, 'nuff said
"Invasion of the Body Snatchers (56) - had nightmares about pods for a while after seeing that one
"Freaks" - creep-O-rama
"Repulsion" - Polanski weirdness
"The Exorcist"
"Jaws" - not during the movie and it's a stereotype, but I'd think about it swimming in lakes in South Dakota for months after!
"Candyman"
"Hellraiser"
"Audition" - japanese creeptastic

John,
I guess your subscription to the Hollywood Daily Variety has lapsed, huh?! So evidently you haven't heard that Wes Cravens is, as we speak, in the Big Sky State doing location filming for his new film....."Ride of the Yellow Death Valkyries".(Cravens has said this will be the first of what he calls his "The Ring (motor)Cycles", an homage to both Richard Wagner AND Roger Corman)

In somewhat of a reprise of her role in the movie "Mask", where she played a "biker momma", The part of Brunnhilde, she of the horned helmet and spear, is being played by none other than....CHER!!!

Early reports say that the MOST TERRIFYING scenes in this new production are where the "diva" opens her mouth....TO SING!!!

Cheers,
Dwight
(Now...for another well made, fairly recent flick that had me squirmin' a bit......"Seven")

This new movie is so creepy that I'll not go to it:

An Inconvenient Truth starring Algore! It's a documentary which includes many of his "environmental" speeches.

Scary, or what!!??

Carpenters movie the "The Thing". Silent Hill was creepy. Bad review but still, imagine millions of feet of barbwire flying around. wouldn't see it twice. When I was 5, some 40 years back, I had bad nightmares from seeing the movie "The Hand" with Michele Cain. Seen it again about 10 years ago to break the spell.

Not a movie, but a scene from a movie that still makes my neck tingle: In the Twin Peaks movie "Fire walk with me," the mom (I think) of the murdered girl keeps replaying what she saw as she went through the house when she finds out her daughter is missing. The last time she replays it in her mind, you see the fuzzy shape of a man's face in the girl's room, and she realizes that the man was still there when she looked in. Trying to describe it doesn't do the scene justice. Creeped me out before I even had kids.

Fishercat,

I'm with you. The original Friday the 13th spooked the sh$t out of me. Up until the end that is. While Jason jumping out of the water was pure shock value, the kids being killed by a mother to revenge her son seems to be believable. I could see my mom doing it. Better keep an eye on her.

#1 The Shining

Alien is top notch just for the exploding chest scene.

The Cell is okay...if you like J-Lo as eye candy.

Jacob's Ladder with Tim Robbins is decent.

Session 9...for something you probably haven't heard of. A crew of abstestos workers goes to clean an old vacant mental hospital and it gets inside their heads.

Not a horror movie per say, but Cube is a wierd movie(although not as wierd as Eraserhead). A group of strangers suddenly find themselves in a cube maze where a wrong turn gets you whacked.
