Mid grade whatever, whenever the America needs some. There is a Chevron near home that I use frequently, but I won't push the BA past any gas pump to get to a certain brand. I don't notice any difference in mileage or performance between brands. I do however, try to buy gas from places that seem to sell a lot of gas, hoping not to get either gas that is old or made for a different season. If you don't get knock or ping, the lowest recommended octane is best. IMHO Triumph recommends mid grade just as a little insurance that knock or excessive ping won't occur. In stock (no compression increasing mods) condition, my BA doesn't knock or ping on mid grade, so I'll stick with that until I hear differently from my motor, Triumph or knowledgable forum members.
Does anyone know why our bikes aren't very effecient converting gas to power?? As mentioned on a different thread recently, some small cars get as good or better mileage as BAs/Speedys.
