I am about to replace mine. Just how difficult is this. I assume you must remove the seat to begin. I am trying to decide if I should leave this up to triumph. Please any info would be helpful. Thanks Doug

Check "the vault" for tips on this mod. Not that hard and yep, the seat does need to come off as well as the gas tank.

If you have the Triumph alarm fitted, remember this when taking the gas tank off - there is probably a micro switch under there. Juggling a full gas tank in the garage while the alarm is going off could be fun! Ask me how I know!

No kidding about the gas. I usally make sure I have at least a 100 miles on the tank before I mess with it.

pull the seat, pull the tank. tie up a few wires to make your life easier, remove old cover install new remove wire ties, replace tank ( hook fuel line back up) reinstall seat, go be the envy of the neighborhood.
Pretty simple.

It's a bit tedious, but nothing that will make you sorry you did it unless you are fairly incompetent with things like this. there are 2 things that are a bit of a hassle. the first being that cetting the cover off involves removing some parts and yanking the wiring harness out of the way. there are a few things like the turn signal raly and such that are mounted to the frame backbone that must be removed. Well, at least they need to be to make it easy. i suppose you could w/o doing that but on mine it seemed way too tought. the wiring harness had to be moved too. so all that involved another 5-1o minutes of extra time. the second hassle is keeping the gasket in place while positioning the cover. i found by using masking tape and taping it to the cover worked ok for me. I put strips about 2" long every 3 inches or so. then i placed it on the head and once the cover and gasket were in the correct position i slightly lifted the cover at each location where the tape was and pulled each piece out. then tightened it down once at the tape strips were removed. it was a bit of a hassle and took maybe 10 minutes, but overall it's not a big job at all. And once you get that thing on you will be jazzed ! Gotta be the best cosmetic upgrade i ever did by a mile. i think it really compliments the black speedmaster engine even more, but on any twin it's bound to look real good.Really improved the overall look of the bike in a big way.

Glue the gasket to the cam cover overnight-makes things much easier.
