Hi There,
Every time I go to Newbonneville.com I am getting a warning that it has downloaded a Trojan Virus into my computer.
Is anyone else getting these trojans from the site.
Cheers.
Steve

Nope, but I use a Mac and have only heard about viruses and trojans. Never experienced it...

I don't use a Mac, but I don't have to worry about trojans/viruses either.. although I do feel their effect from the onslaught of bogus e-mails they generate, and I have to wade through every day

Cheers,
Brad

I bet he is trying to send you a cookie (computer term not Chips Ahoy) and its being read as a trojan. It may be writtn badly. Download Firefox for a browser. He is not infected, nor is he trying to hack you.

The site wants to install an active X control-- your anti-virus program is likely just misidentifying it because of general "trojan like" behavior. If you are running XP SP2 you'd have gotten a warning bar about the Active X control when you initially went to the site.

You can always use Firefox, as it doesn't do active X, or you can dump XP for Linux or a Mac (OS X). Though I look at Macs like HD motorcycles. Fine machines if a bit over priced, and the users tend to be a bit annoying and elitist (present company excluded of course )

I have NEVER had a problem with ordering or receiving parts from Newspeedmaster.com (same company), and I'll bet dozens of folks on this site can say the same. If there's anything not right, then my bet is that Brent doesn't know about it to fix the problem.

There's a posibility that he may be out of town or on vacation. Keep trying to reach him.

Sorry about your dificulties. That's not the usual experience with that company.

I've never caught a computer virus, but I've only been using Macs since 1984. You would think due to "survival of the fittest", PCs would be wiped out by now. I guess it goes back to marketing and the desire to have what everybody else has. I would think that Triumph owners, especially, would appreciate having a computer that looks and performs better than what everybody else uses.

hackers don't bother writing viruses for macs simply because of the numbers. SO many PCs and SO MANY of them are not protected, so why bother.

Yeah but it is true (the numbers game)but I'll say this... I'm a trained, educated Windows professional (MSCE) & I have to use Mac's when in the studio recording music.... While it's only the extreme finer points that truely seperate the two OS's... mac's have their own set of strange happeings etc.... People like to say their Mac never crashes... well no computer should crash from doin simple email & web surfin (what most ppl do on their machines). It's like with cars or bikes or whatever a majority of the ppl who own & use the things only know how to start it & do what the want... they haven't the mind set, skill set or desire to learn anything beyond what they know. So take that into consideration.. my PC never crashes because I take care of it. I change the oil as it were.
But when you start pushing the machines they both have pretty close to the same issues... I don't own a Mac & don't use one everyday but I've had the ones at the studio go down many times over & all the engineers all say the same thing..... they crash all the time.
That's all just had to put my 2cents in....

Here! Here!

I agree completely. Like anything else that is not taken care of, the 'abuse' will show. I've built many PCs and I have never had a problem. The reason you hear more about PCs 'crashing all the time' is literally due to numbers.

btw, MACs are sooooo easy to work with, right? NOT!
We just purchased an iMAC 17" so we can test our software on a Bootcamped Windows XP partition. I spent a tremendous amount of time trying to figure out where stuff was and how things worked (on the MAC side). Sure, if all I was going to do was email and surf the web, that would not have taken so long, but I needed to USE the bloody machine.

Both platforms have their positives and negatives...

I do understand your point. Macs have gone through a lot of changes, especially the operating system. Most studios are using Macs running Pro Tools on OS9 and haven't updated to OSX waiting for all the software to catch up. You see ads talking about Macs don't crash like PCs. Actually, they don't crash like older Macs either. OSX is a UNIX based system quite a bit different than previous Mac systems. I use my computer extensively and my Macs used to crash from time to time, but usually from software that hadn't been updated to keep up with Mac system updates. I've been running OSX for 2 years now and haven't had any crashes other than printer screw ups (again needing updated drivers). There's no doubt a Mac running OSX is superior to other PC systems out there. I'll sorry, I'll stop now......

Oh my God! I've joined a site/club with a bunch of computer geeks. Is it too late to get a T100 and join a group of motorcyclists?

I've been running OSX for 2 years now and haven't had any crashes other than printer screw ups (again needing updated drivers). There's no doubt a Mac running OSX is superior to other PC systems out there.

I've got a Linux server sitting down south that handles web, ftp, DNS, database and mail services for a couple dozen domains. No more than an old 200Mhz 486 w/64Meg of memory, and it just chugs along happily day in and day out. It's constantly hammered 24 hours a day, is sitting unprotected on the public internet outside any firewalls, but uptime (as of today) is now 373 days 12 hours and 5 minutes since last re-boot (which was caused by a massive power outage that outlasted the UPS).

OSX is based on BSD code, which is even more mature (yet less supported), so it's not supprising that it is relatively trouble free.

Cheers,
Brad

As FriarJohn says... PC has merged into MAC world so MAC, welcome back to the poluted AA league. Unless of course, you just never EVER connect it to the web. If your serious about using a computer for work.
