Anyone here play golf?

I just sorta started ....

I gave in to some pressure off a few mates who kept saying I should go and give it a try.

I went with them for a long weekend to Spain last November - they played golf, I got drunk and did very little for a couple of days!

I bought some proper shoes, a glove, and a long sleeved t-shirt to cover the tatts, and I hit my first golf ball tonight at my local club.

I consider it to be one of the most stoopid sports / games (?) out there ... you use a stick to hit a ball a few hundred yards and try and get it into a hole!!
How rediculous is that?

.... after one ½hr lesson, I can hit the ball straight and a decent distance .... the pro says I have a 'textbook' grip (ooh Mrs!!) ....

.... I booked another lesson for Monday morning

Too funny Adey!! I was brought up on a golf course as my Grandfather owns one, still does to this day and guess what, looks as though I will own it one day.

I am most likely the worst golfer who ever lived. But i do like cruising around in the golf carts, haning with a few friends, and having several beers in the great out doors. Plus its a place to wear my polo shirts.

Good luck with the lessons, come on over someday, i'll treat you to a round of golf!!

I LOVE golf!!! I usually attend about four golf tournaments a year throughout the country as part of my job. Unfortunately, I absolutely SUCK at the actual game, so rather than embarrass myself in front of my customers and prospects, I sponsor and drive one of the beer carts. Everyone loves to see me come driving up with cold refreshing adult beverages, and I carry door prizes to give out for longest drive on a hole, or closest ball to the sand trap, or anything else that strikes my imagination. After all, it's MY contest. The OTHER advantage is that all I have to do if I get thirsty is reach behind me into the cooler for a cold...refreshing...carbonated malted adult beverage.

you need to go to a new course...the "marshall-etts" around here carry brew...and their "uniforms" seem to draw a crowd...they seem to sell lots of cheap beer at high prices though....

Course it's been a few years since I "hit the links"

there is a "gentelmens club" near me that sponcers a tourny...and the girls caddy for you...$100.00 Per person 4 person team required....HEY IT"S FOR THE KIDS!!!

Adey,
I try. Actually, I'm pretty good. I don't have a long ball, but my short game really sux. I always get a good score by totaling my strokes and dividing that by the number of balls I lose. Works out great!
I'm pretty good. We have a 9 hole course at work that is free (some say it's the best 9 holes in the area, and we have two Robert Trent Jones Golf courses near here).
I do have to pay $60 per year for my golf car shed, but it is worth it to park my 1968 three wheel Harley Davidson (spit) golf car. It is so convenient, I seldom play anywhere else. BigJack was gonna kick my butt on that course this spring, but I messed up our playing time by sleeping too late after a night shift.

I use to play golf all the time. I got down to a 10 handicap about 8 years ago or so. Stopped playng as much because the wife didn't like me being gone with out her (couldnt get her to play at all). I slowly stopped playing for a very long time. I played a couple times last year, and let me say it's not like riding a bicycle, I stunk. Since getting the Speedy, I havent had much interest either, because give the choice of riding for a few hgours or playing golf, I ride. Maybe I would play more if I could figure out a way to get my clubs strapped to the bike. There is course about an hour away from here I really like.

Love it and play as much as I can. Though I've been lucky enough to play numerous famous and country clubber courses I enjoy the local public golf sites much more. Don't care for the atmosphere (stuffy for sure..ok I am stereotyping) of the country clubs.

I will admit, that with my renewed extreme interest in motorcyling (thanks Triumph!!!) the last few years has presented a conflict...do i ride or play golf? It has impacted my golf game but hey, I decided, who cares.

The less golf I play means more $$ for bike parts.

Ahh Golf....

My golf score just happens to be the proof in Bacardi 151.
I hit more homes, cars, and trees than greens.
I can lose a box of 18 golf balls in 1 round.
I can drain a golf carts battery in 1 round.
How come the PGA players don't get Mulligans?
Is Happy Gilmore considered a golf movie?
My divots chunks go farther than my ball.
My best games are when I play in 4 man scrambles
Michelle Wei is better looking than Craig Stadler

I unknowingly stumbled in, hammered, to the PGA Skins Game awards dinner(black tie) at the Indian Wells Resort and plunked down a $20 bill for a cocktail at the bar. The bartender, looking at my blazing red face and eyes, tank top, flip flops, hawaiian shorts, and stated straight faced: "Sir, this is an open bar..what would you like?" I responded:"I'll have 7&7 my good fellow" while some tanned long blond haired guy wearing a golf hat with a shark logo rambled on about golf.....

Ah Golf...I can't wait to play again.

Played today. We have a company golf league that goes out for 9 every Wednesday. It's the only day of the week I make sure I leave on time. Gotta' love the game.

I bought the TBA in March of '02. Prior to that I usually got 2 to 3 rounds in a week. I started playing when I was 12. Was getting pretty good. Now it is just usually the 9 holes mid week. If it's a Sat. or Sun and it's nice out, Mrs. Robinson beckons me out to the open road. My handicap is around an 18 now. Bogie golf is good enough for me. Oh well, I have fun and usally have a few pints of Sam Adams in the club house afterwards. I even have a buddy that lives nearby that will sometimes drive my clubs and gear to the course for me so I still get to ride on Wednesday. Now that's the shiznit!

Same thing here Soren,

I played 4-5 times a week for a few years, got to about a 11-12 handicap. Feeling good about myself, kind of got into it. Then one friend died too young from a heart attack, another bud moved away, one thing led to another and I got out maybe 5 times all last year. Work has been crowding too many nights and weekends (just walked in the door & leave again in 8 hours). I ride the bike as much for work now. It all evens out in the big picture.

I play, at least I did before I bought my Speedy. Had a 13 handicap. I even played St Andrews for a week, 2 years ago. Fun game, but unfortunately, good golfing weather coincides with riding weather.....

Best of both worlds!

Actually, didn't someone post a pic of a bike carrying a set of clubs while ago??
I'm sure I saw one ......

Or is it the lack of booze making me think I did

Used to play frequently and poorly. Now play rarely and have handily maintained my poor handycap. They tell me one secret to the game is consistancy. I am consistantly inconsistant - That doesn't work the same.

I play Golf

Once a year to be exact. In the 4 man team Select Shot Golf Tournament that I host. Luckily for me I have a really good team. I am the designated golf cart driver.

OK so this stoopid game just cost me ££££.

I saw the light of day and realised the cheap beginers set of clubs were going to be totally crap.
I took 'em back and got a refund.

Asked a friend (who got me into this!!) where I could get some good gear for reasonable money.

I tootled off and ended up in a darkened room on some bloody computer thingy with lasers and radars and stuff which checks all your shots and compares the different clubs you've been using.
Tells you how bad you are basically!!

I ended up with a #1 Yonex driver, a couple of cheaper Hippo drivers (#3 & #5) and placed an order for a custom made set of Ben Hogan irons.

The plastic nearly gave up the ghost and I don't even get a sand wedge, putter, bag or trolley with that lot!
For this money, I'd better get free lessons of Tiger Woods at the very least!

Stoopid game ....
