Hey Benny, Mike over in Coram here, if you're gonna ride on the 24th I'm off that day, it turns out we're playing that night in Middle Island...first gig with a new lineup of singers. I'd love to get in on some hangin' out and ridin',and maybe afterwards you can come down and check the band out. I also do alot of riding out on the Island, a trip out to Greenport is always a good day too, and their is a guy out in Orient at the one gas station out there named Paul who has a few Triumphs, and he recently picked up a Speedmaster, he'd get a real kick out of having a few Triumphs pull in for fuel.

Mike, sounds like a good gas stop! Do you know that guy? Can you give him a heads up? I'm always up for some live music...

The first time I met him, he chased me down. I was out there on one of my weekday rides, and I pulled in for gas. As I pulled away he came running out but I was gone. A few miles down the road I pulled over to take some pictures and he came driving up..he came looking for me, said he knew it was a Triumph pulling away and he'd caught a glimpse of the bike. Then I was out there a couple of months ago looking at a car for my son and I noticed a red Speedy at the station I pulled in and we started talking, he just bought it used.

I wonder if it is member "kars"? He said he lives out that way but I never got what he does for a living. Maybe it's him! I'll send him a PM. Well looks like Unclecharlie is coming over tomorrow for some jetting help, so if anyone else is around...

Benny, I'm gonna try to be on your side of the pond by noon. It looks like I can take 112s from PJ right to Medford. I'll call your cell from the ferry.

Here's my LI ride report for this weekend:
Sunday AM Caught(barely) the 9:30 Ferry from Bpt to PJ. Met up with Benny. We rode for about 45 miles, and had lunch. I rode solo out to Orient Point, turned around and stopped on the way back at the gas station with the Speedy. Paul came right over, and we bs'd about the bikes. Nice guy, who's been lurking on the site(as I did at first). I suggested he log on, and get in on the fun.
I kept on riding West, looking for a decent motel. Ended up back close to Benny, with plans for riding Monday AM.
This morning, I met Benny, Mark(litzerski), and a new guy Walt, at the commuter lot off X63 LIE. Walt had other stuff to do, so he didn't ride with us.
Benny, Mark, and I headed out to Orient Point. The weather was great, and we had lunch at the deli right at the dock. On the way back, we stopped at that station, but Paul had the day off(good for him).
I took some pics, and will be e-mailing them to Benny for re-sizing and posting.
Walt, nice meeting you. Let's ride!
Mark, nice finally meeting/riding w/you.
Benny, thanks for everthing, you showed us some nice roads.
It was a blast!

Great meeting & riding with you too Charlie. I had a good day of riding and got decently sunburned in the process...base tan of course.
Benny & I headed back to his place & did some wrenching, and I finally made it back into the city at 6:30. Looking forward to meeting more of you in a few weeks.

After I split off from you guy's, I managed to make the 2:00 ferry from PJ to Bpt. Bike back in my Mom's garage by 4, and back at the marina for happy hour.
What a great weekend!

I was just going to write a "Pre-Long Island ride Long Island ride" report, but you guys beat me to it! Pat, if you read this you'll be happy to know Mark now knows what a snorkle is!! We put his bike up on the lift, got his new (my old makeshift) speedo cable loop installed, pulled his snorkles, and installed his fender bib. Then we put my bike on the lift, swore at it a LOT and re-jetted to 155's without pulling the carbs. That one inside-rear screw on the left carb is a mo-fo!! But my bike is running GREAT now I must say. I think Mark got a good earfull as I pulled away on our test ride So anyway, we have some good ideas for the 24th. Probably not a whole lot of miles, but some good scenic look-outs, and if we want we can grill it up at my place. Depending on the ferry you guys take, I'm thinking a nice day may be to ride some of those semi-twisties near my place for an hour or so, then do lunch/wrench at my place for a couple hours, then to a nice ride in the afternoon, either out east again, or maybe ocean parkway by Jones Beach... Depends on traffic predictions. Any other suggestions/destinations welcome! I'll try to test out some other roads in the coming weeks.

Nah everyone's gotta start somewhere! I didn't say you rode like a girl, just that you ate my dust. But it's not your fault! Your bike is stock and you're used to riding with HD's

Sounds like a plan then I plan on getting you guys thuroughly confused by winding in and our of some state parks and sod farms. There's a few cool roads and they all criss-cross, so I figure even if we back-track and do some figure 8's it'll be fun. Then we can just swing by the stop n shop (1 mile from my place) and pick out meat products.

I remember those sod farms. When I was a kid, the LIE ended just past Huntington. I remember when my Moms friends bought a house in Commack and the houses were just being built on old farm land. Suffolk County was still mostly farmland in the early sixties. I used to ski at Bald Hill and Hi-point, sometimes at Bethpage State Park(they actually had a snow gun for that little bump!)I used to hang out in Bayville when I was a teenager. My girlfriend at the time lived across from the beach. We would go into Locust valley and hang out there all night. There was a Greek food stand that stayed open real late. LI was sure different back then. Good times.

Sometime we should ride the North Shore in Oyster bay. I think it is the nicest part of LI. Even nicer then out east.

Hey Charlie and Mark, remember that hill that I said was the highest point on LI? That's what Matt is talking about! Crazy...
As for Oyster Bay, I agree, it's real nice, but getting there isn't so fun anymore unless we slab it most of the way... I will look into it tho, maybe an after lunch ride.

Hey Benny, all I remember eating was a sandwich at Orient Point. As it turned out, you helped me with my jets after all. That was a great road test. The only other time I've ridden with another BA was Mert's ride, which was at a more casual pace. I thought we RIPPED it up pretty GOOD! I felt my bike ran strong, I was sticking to you like glue! What a BLAST!
I'm sorry I'll be missing the ride, but was thrilled to do the pre-ride. Thanks again.
Charlie

Benny...any idea if you can find Lysanders meat rubs anywhere out on LI? I grill with them all the time (actually my "secret" ingredient for all grilling) but I've only found them in central PA.
My Dad's coming in in 2 weeks, maybe I can talk him into picking up some bags for me...

Benny, hey another nice ride, is over to Greenport, then ferry to shelter Island, cross the island , then take the other ferry over to Sag Harbor, and/or have lunch there , or just hang there buy the docks for a while, then come back through all the hampton towns which generally heading west on those roads moves O.K. on a Saturday, or there are plenty of back roads that bring you out close to the Shinnecock area. Lots of good riding...

Yeah Mike I may look into that. Only thing about Greenport (which Charlie found out) is it takes FOREVER just to get thru that town on a nice day. We'll see...
Mark, not sure about those rubs, but I can certainly look. Definitely get your dad to bring some!
Shari, steak is on me...

Hey Charlie, Mark and I rejetted my bike, so I think you'll have a harder time keeping up to me now Plus I wasn't running full blast because I didn't want to lose Mark. Not cause he rides like a girl, but because it was my first ride with him, didn't know his style. But yeah, there were a couple stretches of road that I knew there were no turns or anything so I got on it knowing I had time to wait if need be.

Hey all,
I just got an e-mail reply from the guy with the SM at the Orient gas station(Paul Armstrong). I had sent him pics of our LI pre-ride, and was wondering if he would reply. He said that he will be working 6/24, but will try to sneak away for a little ride with ya'll.
I wish I could make it, but I have a camping trip with my lifelong fishing buddy, and his 15 y/o son in RI.
Have fun,
Uncle Charlie
