I absolutely hate the rear peg holder and have been banging my head trying to figure out a different place for the rear pegs and something different looking. After removing the rear peg holder and peg I noticed that the threads on the rear peg bracket fit perfectly into the spot wear the exhaust holding bolt went. Out come no expensive modification needed to move the pegs about 6 inches forward and 2 inches down for my 5'11" wife who had me stopping every ten miles to stretch her legs. http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=4280hopefully the link works

I have thought about doing that. The GF and her daughter are nowhere near 5'11" but the peg change may be more comfortable for them. But, then there is my son. He isnt as tall (since he is only almost 10 years old), however to move the pegs back I guess would only take a minute or three.

So all you had to do was remove the ugly triangle shaped plate?

I had mine there for a year or so, but my girlfriend actually likes the stock location! Go figure... I think she's the only one. So I got some black peg hangers. Looks pretty slick. But yeah, they work. Just remember, you'll need to stack some washer behind the peg so that when they tighten they fold UP!

Yep I just removed the plate, then removed the nut on the backside of the foot peg. The bracket that holds the foot peg is threaded exactly the same as the two bolts that held on the hanger.
I put one of the bolts back in the empty hole just incase I ever need it for some reason and it looks a little better
Mine fit perfectly.

This is a fairly old mod, because I've had mine that way for over 2 years now and I wasn't the first one to do it. It really gives a passenger more leg room, so my wife likes it. I put on a fairly thick nylon washer before screwing in the passenger peg to the exhaust hanger. The washer gives it enough cushion so you can screw it in tight enough with some leeway. Enough threads go in though where it doesn't have to be perfectly tight. I doubt that there's any danger of it coming unscrewed and falling off the bike.

It can come loose, tho, not all the way out. Because they fold up, if the passenger kinda fiddles her foot around, she can kick it loose, at least one side. See pusing back on the right peg loosens it, the left tightens. See? Screw it in tight!

To compensate for that I used addittional washers and locktite 1)Rubber 1)Metal 1)Lock
I just did this and after tightening it I doubt it will ever come off.
Maybe if I use a saw

If you ever have to take the swingarm off, you might regret going to that extreme. I guess you could get the swingarm off without removing the pipes, but it is easier with them off.
I do keep mine fairly tight though...which is easy with the nylon washer. It hasn't come loose yet in over 2 years.

Yeah I did mine as an experiment in a time when I rarely if ever rode with a passenger... I suppose the threads on the pegs are long enough that you could easily twist a nut on there first, run the pegs in, then crank the nut down when you get it where you want, jam nut style.

I just did the same thing. I can see two small drawbacks though. First, on the right side the chain guard is too short and looks like crap. Second, the pegs have little studs that stick into the pegs hangers to keep them from turning. They have nothing to stick into on the exhaust hanger bolts. The location is much more comfortable though and those ugly peg hangers are GONE!
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

That's what I love about this site! There's nothing better than a free mod that makes the bike look better (and weigh less). I never would have even thought of trying this, but I like it. Thanks.
