Me too, these motors were designed to live in the high rpm's
I think you can actually harm your engine if you continually shift without winding it up. If you don't wind it up you are lugging it. And this can cause damage. I usually wind it up to just before I hit the rev. limiter, at least up to third or fourth gear. Seldom use fifth unless I'm on the Interstate.
