Is the windshield effective on long rides to cut down on buffeting.

It does for me.. I put it on for my trip to the Georgia Rally and would have been misrable without it. I even noticed on the way back it kept the rain off of my chest and faceshield pretty well. That was the main reason for getting it.. I'm a pretty big sail in the wind without a shield, and long distance trips were a hassle fighting the wind at speeds over about 55Mph.

If you get the viper, make sure you loctite the bolts.

I've heard others make the same recomendation, but I haven't have any problems yet, and I've got almost 2000 miles on the shield since installed (most of those well over 75Mph). Maybe it's the way I have the mounting posts? I noticed at the Rally that most had the posts facing forward while mine are facing up.. Just a guess.

Cheers,
Brad
