I called my dealer the other day and had him call triumph to get the lowdown straight from the horses mouth. First, it IS true that as someone said here that there are free 18 tooth sprockets waiting for those with a speedy that has an engine # of 179828 or below via warranty. However, if yours is above that number you should have an 18 already according to the triumph rep as told to my dealer's warranty guy. BUT, mine is above that number and was supposed to have an 18 but didn't ! So he said he would call triumph to get an ok from them to get me an 18, which he promptly did. So now i'm just waiting for it to arrive and go have them swap it. So if your engine # is at or below the number above, give your dealer a call and if he knows nothing about it have him check with triumph for a free sprocket. Or like me, he may have to get an OK from them if you have a 18 tooth engine # but it has a 16.
Second, the rep also told him that EFI, unlike all the rumors, will NOT be added to the twins in the next few years. the rep told him that the twins exceed emissions standards not only for the present for for several years to come, even in europe where the standards are higher. So i don't know what several means to the rep that said this, but i'd assume it's going to be a long time before EFI twins are seen. And since the twins are designed to appeal to the retro crowd i would imagine triumph would not WANT to EFI them untill they absolutly have to in order to maintain the retro feel. Anyway, this is word from a triumph rep so it's probably a lot more solid than the rumors we all hear.

Well yeah! 110 mains and 42 pilots with random turns out on the air mixture screws. AI systems too. If we didn't enrich the beastards, they would have burnt a hole in their pistons by now...
What is this about 18 tooth front sprockets on speedies? I guess the thinking has come a long way from the first model with 16 tooth front sprockets standard.

If they have changed the SMs to 18/42, are the Amercas to be still 17/42? I guess at least I will be able to buy a chain sprocket kit with 18/42 in the future. Still have mixed feelings about the 18/42 vs. 17/42 on Americas.

Thanks for the tip Dazco. My local dealer (RPM in Dallas) did the sprocket change under warranty during my 4K service. The bike is entirely transformed on the highway. I was not liking my Speedy over 50MPH. I do now !

I love the 18 tooth. 4th gear, 75 mph (indicated on the speedo) = 5000 rpm Soren

Unfortunatly my dealer is 70 miles away and told me they couldn't schedule an appointment by the hour, only by the day. They want me to show up at 9 am and said minimum 2 hour wait, possibly all day ! Well, for the $25 it will cost me to buy one online ($20+5 for ship) i think that the way to go. Free isn't worth it is 1)-i have to spend a saturday sitting there for hours waiting, and 2)- it will cost me about $10 in gas to get there and back, so i'd really only be saving $15 which isn't enough to justify ruining my saturday. So i'll be ordering one online if and when i decide to do it.

No EFI, but cats are sure to follow. Converters clean up a lot of bad exhaust output.
