per Bill Gately at Bonneville Performance, the counterbalance shafts are a power looser and are not needed with a balanced crankshaft.
He was pretty clear that even with the balanced crank it would not be as smooth as the stock motor with the balancing system in place.
I do not recall a discussion on whether the balancing shafts would still fit or not. But I did not try either.
