I have to agree with Blackwind. I bought my Speedy Sept. 04. I was 62 years old and never had a bike before and rode others less than five times. I went to a motorcycle school and would recommend that highly. I found that the Speedy is an excellent bike to learn on. We had three acres of grass that I rode on for a while. That is a tough way to learn because grass is slippery, but it worked for me. I have ridden in many rain storms and again the tires (tyres) were great. I now have 10600 miles on mine. I would cover your bike though.
