There are already tariffs on goods going from Canada to the US. Aluminum (your industry is small and the electricity required is not available)Steel (you could ramp up production a little however many off the mills in the rust belt have closed plus American companies own the largest producer in Hamilton so where is the incentive to invest) Softwood lumber(you can’t cut enough to satisfy the housing industry without cutting down your national forests plus ours is much stronger we let the trees grow for more years before harvesting and it was Biden that applied those tariffs)
The Truth is the trade deficit is not as big as Trump tells people no matter how many times he says it. Why? He never includes services like Microsoft and Netflix those are exports for the US as well.
The US unemployment rate is 4.1% so where do you find employees for those non existing factories certainly not the people buying those $5 mil gold cards that Trump and Lutnick are selling.
If the auto industry collapses we are all done it is so interconnected between our three countries it will take years to restructure plus like the aluminum industry the US does not have the energy to fire up new plants. (AI will be demanding all the extra electricity available)
Hopefully cooler heads will prevail however many this side of the border believe Trumps plan is to kill and absorb Canada.
