We all know why Harley riders don't wave back: Scared of voiding the warranty, afraid to let go of the handgrips incase the vibrate off, can't really tell if the other rideris waving or just trying to cover their ears and so on. But why don't the BMW riders wave back? Well I found the answers today! Enjoy Top Ten Reasons Why BMW Riders Don't Wave Back 10. Wasn't sure whether other rider was waving or making an obscene gesture. 9. Afraid might get frostbite if hand is removed from heated grip. 8. Has arthritis and the past 900 mile ride has made it difficult to raise arm. 7. Reflection from $8000 worth of approaching bolt-on chrome momentarily blinded him.. 6. The espresso machine just finished brewing. 5. Was actually asleep when other rider waved. 4. Was in a three-way conference call with stock broker and BMW accessories dealer to buy BMW chrome pegs. 3. Was distracted by odd shaped blip on radar screen. 2. Was simultaneously adjusting the windshield height, programmable CD player, seat temperature and satellite navigation system. 1. Couldn't find the "auto wave back" button on dashboard.

It has got to be a Beemer vehicle thing stateside that doesn't exist in Europe. Even the Harley crowd waves out here ... they still have the "attitude" thing though.

I had a BMW wave at me. Well actually, I think he hired a passenger to do the waving for him. I thought for a second it was a fake arm, like "KingPin", because I couldn't the passenger behind the guy

Actually Bedouin, just about every rider here in the States gives some sort of an acknowledgement to their fellow riders as they pass in opposite directions regardless of their differing brands. Most of the time when someone starts a thread like this it's meant as a joke to some degree. Last week, when Derek and his wife Linda, and Becky and I were in the Prescott/Sedona/Flagstaff Arizona area putting probably over 400 miles on our bikes, almost without exception, every rider(and I'd say Arizonans are especially "crazy" for HDs...my guess: 95 percent of the riders there ride Milwaukee's Finest...and northern AZ is literally saturated with motorcycles) waved to us as we'd pass them. Cheers, Dwight (and 2 of the 3 BMW riders we passed, waved back too) (oh and Bill....are you absolutely SURE that 17th digit is correct???)

Well...can't argue with THAT source, can we Bill?!
I'll bet Eric(that's the Beemer rider in question here) probably dialed up the answer for ya on his official K-bike onboard computer/GPS thingamabob, DIDN'T he???
Cheers, Dwight (BUT, the question still remains.....Did he WAVE???)

It was Erik, with a K. (he told me). I wondered what the buttons he was pushing were for As for the question, he was pushing buttons, and his nose was pointed upward just a little .

Thanks Newbie, That was good! Most real Harley riders wave back, because they are bikers. The ones that don't are the posers (they don't get it). I wave at everyone, when I can. When my bride is with me, she does the waving. But riding solo, I am like Forrest Gump seeing "Lieutinent Dan" for the first time in years. Lieutinent, is one word I never could spell. BMW riders in Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida never wave back, unless they are a rich teenager and then it's easy to see they are a rich teenager.
Ride Safe,
Dennis
Triumph, it's how I live and what I ride.
