If you loosen the axle first, then loosen the pinch bolts you won't need to hold the left side of the axle. Now about the speedo. What? Simple catch it as you remove the wheel. Let's see if I have a pic. Here's one

You will have to raise the front of the bike way off the ground. Also pay attention to how the speedo drive is oriented.

Edited: My first front wheel removal. The service manual says ya don't have to remove the caliper. Well you don't, but the replacement of the front wheel is way easier if you remove the *#&$^% caliper first!
