I'm not in to the home brewing, it seems like a lot of time effort and money into an experiment that might end up getting dumped down the drain! I leave somethings to the professionals and I'll pay them handsomely for their experience!
We go the simple route. A can of mix+sugar+hot water+more water followed by time, a little more sugar+time and of course labor/handling. And the effort is rewarded with a tasty, repeatable brew at a cost comparable to store bought.
Love to sample the craft brews but am out less and less with an income that matches
