During the last year I have been thinking about downsizing to a lighter bike. My Thunderbird Commander weighs around 750 lbs. fully fueled and is just not that fun sometimes especially riding around town. You always have to consider the weight when parking or even stoplight to stoplight. I have been looking at the Triumph Speed Twin. It weighs in at 432 lbs. and also has the 1200 Thruxton tune that produces 96hp vs 77hp of the new SM. It looks like it would be fun. I might miss the long distance comfort and capability of the TBird though.

I know that feeling. You'd not believe though how much lighter my 1600 tbird feels compared with the two LTs I ran a while back. Partly weight reduction and maybe shorter wheelbase.....I used to have a mild feeling of impending doom with the LTs when pulling up at junctions.
These days I also run an old Tiger 955i and it feels a fraction of the weight.
About to do a 500 mile run on Friday and haven't decided which to take...they'll both do it well, just in different ways.

I took the Road Less Travelled. Now where the ****** am I?

My new speedmaster just arrived at the dealers. It's about 40lbs heavier[dry weight]than my America but with it's shorter wheelbase and weight carried lower down.it seems easier to control/turn at low speed etc at least as I remember in the test ride.
