The new Rocket is a reality. Triumph has confirmed it is 2500ccs. The initial run will be 750 Triumph Factory Customs individually numbered with premium components similar to the Thruxton. That TFC thing seems fun. The Thruxton TFC is from $23,500 when the standard Thruxton is from $14,000 !! For me, they would need to put a lot more than a friggin' limited edition plate on there to justify that difference. .

that new Rocket looks better than any of the previous versions. if they keep the regular line with those looks, it'll be a contender

The fuel tank alone is 100% improvement over the old one. I’m not sure about the Diavel-ish rear end though.

I always thought the left side of the R3 was it's biggest fault. Looks like they agreed. Much better.

I agree. Especially when some remove the left hand exhaust leaving that big hole under the swingarm where the crossover pipe usually goes.
Curious to see what this custom offering will morph into.

Did you ever ride one? So much weight (it's bigger than most car engines ffs) so low down, it handled great.
Less so in the wet if you didn't slow down
Touring wasn't as nice to ride as a standard R3.

Did you ever ride one? So much weight (it's bigger than most car engines ffs) so low down, it handled great.

My comment wasn't speculation. I rode a dealer's (standard R3) around for about 3 weeks back in 2010 or 11. Long story. It seemed a bit top heavy to me and did a bit of wallowing (is that the right word?) in the twisties. My experience.

Wow, that surprises me you thought that. I always thought it handled WAY better than it any right to, being the big old bugger that it was. The only reason I got rid of mine before going to Romania was the cost. I though it would've been cheaper going in my car than on the R3 ! I know Martyn loved his too. .

You have to remember here Thanassis, that up until the most recent water-cooled Bonneville line, and except for some of Triumph's more sportbike oriented machines made over the years, the rear shocks that have come standard on almost all other Triumphs have been pretty much cheaper lower grade units.
And so, I would guess here that even taking into consideration the old Rocket-3's weight and mass, that the thought of having lower grade rear shocks on them probably contributed much to the wallowing in the twisties you said you encountered while riding one.
(...and yes ol' buddy, "wallowing" was the right word to use here, alright)

Very good ground clearance. You have to respect the torque though coming out of the corners especially if it is wet. Stay away from the painted lines also.

Could very well be. But for a bike that cost in the vicinity of 25.000 $ (23.500 Euros) here one would think decent enough shocks would be par for the course. Don't get me wrong, I loved the bike, I just considered it needed a bit more planning when entering the twisties ... the weight probably being the major contributor (also a bit top-heavy, in my mind).

Same problem for other discontinued Triumphs models, Americas, T Birds etc.
I could be wrong but I believe the new Rocket will be available only as a Triumph Factory Custom (TFC). Some are speculating a new lineup of Rockets will emerge. I just dont see that happening, it's always been a niche machine.
I'm glad to see Triumph updated the beast but I'm not a big fan of it. Looks like a Diavel, don't care for that Duc either.

I own a 2015 Rocket 3 Touring and love it.
It is NOT an Aircraft Carrier. It is a Battleship.
Wife and I started doing some long haul riding last year and it will eat up the interstate. Handles extremely well in the curves, but you have to work her. It is a heavy bike standing still, but once she starts moving the weight melts away.
I really like the new Rocket. I was a part of the consumer review a couple of years ago. 2500cc 170 hp out of the factory.
The only issue I have with it is it is a single seat, but with limited number they are producing they will sell out at a premium price. Bet we will see a 2 up model in the next couple years.
The America is still my favorite ride and gets plenty of miles.

Just to clarify, I really like Rocket Roadsters and have been close to pulling the trigger a couple of times. I think I've moved on from that however. But this new design while I'm sure it's a blast to ride I just do not care for the look. It may grow on me if we ever see them in the show rooms.

It is the weight of the bike. In corners it goes down, but I find myself pushing her tighter into it.
Coming out of the corner you cannot be afraid to give it so throttle to raise it back up.
Fact is for a bike this size it is amazing what it will do.

And, the only thing I don't like that much about this new Rocket is that the exhaust is a 3-into-2 setup, and whereas I think they should have kept the whole "Triple" idea/concept/theme going throughout the bike with a 3-into-3 looking muffler instead.
(...you know, maybe sort of a subdued and smaller version of the "fantail" exhaust on Craig Vetter's original re-design of the BSA Rocket-3 that would then subsequently be offered to the public as the Triumph X-75 Hurricane after BSA folded their operations)

Now then Dwight....that WOULD be worth a look. Always been an admirer of the Vetter Hurricane bikes. I might even tolerate the lack of any obvious suspension at the rear. As it is I prefer to ride my Tiger 955i with its boxes on.looks better( we use the term ' better' with Tiggers relatively speaking....petrol tank still looks to me like someone sat on a half filled balloon.) Oh well....but I digress

Yes I don't get the styling of a lot of the new stuff and custom stuff doing away with the back guard[fender] makes them look "unfinished to me I understand "bobbed" guards but the trend is to make them non-existant.I am also not a fan of the Diavel styling.

I agree, it looks like 2/3 of a bike and somebody got bored so didn't finish it. I would not be a buyer for that motorcycle. I love the motor and power but they forgot the tail. I would buy this first. 12 grand with 1200 miles. 2018 Rocket 3

If that's true here Greg, then sorry to say that that would be even more disappointing to me, design-wise.
You see, I've never cared for the looks of an asymmetrical exhaust layout such as that, what with two on one side and only one on the other.
Nope, like I said earlier, I'd prefer something along the line of what Craig Vetter did with his restyled BSA Rocket-3 prototype/Triumph X-75 Hurricane, and when he kept all three mufflers on the right side.
(...yep, they should've just made that muffler on the right side of this bike with three exhaust openings instead of just two, and kind'a like what MV Agusta has done with their Brutale 800 triple)

The old Suzuki triples I had/have had the 2 outer cylanders going ito an upper pipe on each side and the center split into 2 smaller pipes under the larger ones giving 2 pipes on each side, 4 all together.

Yep, that was more symmetrical in design alright Ian, and as you know so were the stock exhaust layouts on all the BSA and Triumph triples back in the day what with their headers being split up front and then extending back to a symmetrical looking one muffler on each side arrangement.
But still, I really think the boys in Hinckley missed the mark a bit with this new bike by not going with a 3-into-3 and all on the right side arrangement.
(...I suppose this thing of mine probably all stems from the time when I as a 19 year old 1971 BSA Rocket-3 owner walked past a news stand to see Craig Vetter's restyled version of my bike on the cover of Cycle Magazine and fell instantly in love with his creation, and then wished my BSA triple looked like that)

Had that same Suki ( top pic) 1972, Good ole days. I believe the second pic is a 1975. Ring, ding, ding...I can hear her and smell her lovely two strong oil burning right now.

I don't know just grabbed those off the web, they are not mine. I was just illustrating the exhaust. The GT550 I had (traded it for a Norton) Was a 74 or 75 I think, looked like the blue one though. I still have a 76 GT750 (water Buffalo) and 2 GT380s but those are junk and had many parts robbed off of them. One of the 380 front ends is on a 67 Bonnie hardtail I built.

First pic is in the UK (Mini in the background shows a partial plate, registered in Swansea, Wales) though it might be a US spec bike (side facing reflectors). Just sayin'

Could be in the US too we have some of those here and the cool kids put that UK style tag on the front. I am not saying that is the case but it is possible. The tag on the bike does look too big for a US tag.
