I was out on "The Bike" Today. My local mechanic had it while I was away, cleaned it,checked the carbs, tuned it ,the one way valve on the main breather was restricted so he removed the restriction .I fell in love with my America all over again this morning ! It is really great and putting the 19T front sprocket make cruising SO smooth.I'm a happy chappie 👍

I always feel a little guilty when I admit that I love some of my machines. I occasionally go out to the garage and pat them and talk to them. I know they are just inanimate objects, but I have a lot invested in some of them, time and money. Still, I think I'm a little nuts and it is wrong to like my machinery so much.

And the converse has puzzled me recently. I was running a Honda VTX 1800.....could recognise that it was a very good machine but never felt a thing for it. The acid test for me is when you park up and walk away...I didn't even give it a backward glance.

Yep.Same with the TX 650 Yamaha I had and the 600 Honda VLX.Great bikes very reliable but didn't have "soul" for want of a better word.

And the other side of the coin is people that have absolutely NO respect or love for machinery at ALL! People who thrash a nice car and just ruin it cause they can just buy another one. I knew a guy years ago who came into some money and bought a brand new 454 Chevy Truck, real nice. He proceded to run the tar out of it, burnt the inside up with cigar ashes and sideswiped some highways signs just messin around. Turned it into a piece of junk in about two months. Then, he bought a Corvette and the same thing. Eventually he screwed up his high payin job and now works doin a lower payin, pointless job. Actully, my youngest son doesn't get it either. Although he DOES take very good care of his machines, he cares not a lick about any of them. He is always naggin me to "get rid of" my extra cycles (antiques that I built/restored myself) cause I don't drive them much. Has no appreciation for the beauty of a machine. Now is nagging me to sit my non restored 61 Triumph TR3 outside of our "shared" car shed so he can store his wifes spare car in it's place. It isn't "drivable", so to him, it has no worth. For some reason he HAS always like my 68 Triumph GT6 and often brags how he's gonna inherit it, but I cringe at the thought. After he used it some, and it became "impractical" in some way, he'd just sell it to buy another tractor attachment.

In conversation today with a fellow Canadian we both will arrive back in Ontario in late April when the snow is clearing and it will be time to get our respective rides out of the shed and take to the open road. What was it that Thumper said about a heart being Twitterpated?

Yeah, except you are forgetting the obvious stumbling block to your plan. We are already getting "wind therapy!"

My garage is heated so all through the winter I can go out and visit my girls.
In the mornings I sometimes go out with a hot cup of coffee and talk to them.
When I see the heartbeat on the battery tenders I use I know that they are sleeping well in their winter slumber.
I have cleaned them a couple times wiping away the dust. Running my micro cloth over their curves feeling their smooth lines.
I sometimes want to just start them up just to hear that sound, but do not want to bring them back to life just to be disappointed not getting to roll.
Damn I need therapy...............wind therapy.

I haven't got space for a garage( house prices here are crazy) so I can fit two bikes in my front garden. Winter means a good quality cover and an outdoor battery tender...plus lots of visits to wipe down the condensation and keep the rot at bay. That's true love.

I'm not sure about therapy after THAT description as much as you might need a GIRLFRIEND!

My bikes are my girlfriends. LOL Don't tell the wife.
Our house is 1200 square feet and the garage is like another room. Washer-Dryer-water Heater-furnace- and water softener are in it. 2 bikes and the wife's car in bad weather.

Ya know, I was just thinkin' that Jung might've once said something of note about the subject at hand here.
Yeah, ya know he did, and I THINK it went somethin' like:
"While Man is the only species which possesses the ability of "Transference", specifically the transference of sexual thoughts into other forms of actions unrelated to the sexual act itself, it's best not to get carried away in these regards and by doing so begin to imagine your motorcycle as if it were Michelle Pfeiffer sitting spread eagle on the floor of your garage."
Yep, Jung said that, alright!
(...wait, what's that you say?...Carl Jung never said that, you say?!...well HELL, I'm not talkin' CARL Jung here...I'm talkin' Zachariah or "ZACH" Jung here...my bartender!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

and' it's not that anything Freud said is true, or untrue. The interesting thing is that, as a society, we've decided to act as though it was true.' Hey, its paid my rent all these years.

Al you live in Tunbridge Wells that's an "upper class" place isn't it? Where you put your bikes in the front garden you could knock together a tin shed for them.I'm sure that'd impress the neighbours

You guys are starting to weird me out blowing kisses to your bike, having coffee with them and talking to them. Freud would have had a field day with that.
