Received email from Triumph twin power about the "safe start Mod"
An adapter that prevents damage in case of a " kickback" during starting?
Any experience out there about this. Does my 2012 Need this?

It's laid out by year and VIN on TTP s website. Pieman states that there have been recent instances of case failure on the same order as the older bikes on the previously thought safe later years. It's a catastrophic failure requiring a new engine case or trying to weld oily Aluminum, insitu. That is if it's even doable depending on the nature of the fracture and what's left to work with after the failure.

On the newer bikes there is webbing on the sides of the lug so the TTP part won't fit unless you remove the re-enforcement.

As it goes, I just ordered one of these from fasteddy today. I need to open up my clutch cover anyway to replace oil seals so I figured I might as well do some precautionary work whilst in there. 2002 with coming up on 50thousand miles and with all the top end work I've done I'd hate to see something on the bottom fail. Fairly cheap insurance policy, even if my bike doesn't have one of the at risk motors...

You can purchase 6mm threaded rods at Rocky's Ace Hardware, which are very helpful when positioning the gasket onto the engine mating surface.

Another solution is to buy some cheap low grade carbon steel 6mm bolts and hacksaw the heads off. Great for hanging the gasket in place when re installing the cover. I had the bolts on hand already from when I installed stainless allen head replacements. Same town destination, just a different road to get there.
