Oh dear, you'd have thought after all my years of Guzzi grief that I'd be cured...but no, here I am again negotiating for a Guzzi California Classic Touring....2000 miles from new and could have rolled straight off the showroom floor.
Just need to agree price and who's paying for the new battery it needs.
Company for the TBA at last....if we get to a final deal.

Gotta love a Guzzi.
I just chopped in my V9 Bobber a couple of weeks ago but loved it.
The California is nice.
Personally, I'd like an Audace or Eldorado.

Wow! the deal might hinge on the cost of a battery?!
Maybe question if you REALLY want it all that much ...

I had a Stelvio loaner a few years ago.
My bike was being serviced and the dealer had recently changed over from Triumph to Guzzi.
I must admit I was disappointed with the performance. But then again, it was when I had the R3 so anything felt slow.

A couple of years ago, a mate of mine had a Norge. He put thousands of miles on that thing in a very short space of time.

yeah, but going to 108hp from even my America is a good jump up. and it handles great even on dirt and gravel roads

The Red Eldo is an awesome looking machine. If I had a dealer within a 4 hour ride that actually carried floor stock I would be tempted
Eldorado

Hmmm...looks like I spoke too soon... embarrassed seller can't get it to start( I have a hunch or two why...battery obviously, but these things also drop fuel lines off the in tank pump.)
I've told him to sort it and call me when/if he does.
If he can't, then I might just have it for a vastly reduced price.

18k IS a little steep. I wonder if Dave could get me a 50% discount.

I was actually trying to make you NOT feel like a douche.
Who said you're taking advantage of him?!!
How are you taking advantage of someone by expecting the bike you're looking to buy to actually run? Though when you thought it did run, the deal apparently hinged on the price of a friggin battery.
And if it doesn't run, why SHOULDN'T you expect it to be cheaper if it's a NON-RUNNER ffs.

No ...he gets it running..and to my satisfaction and then we talk money.
I'm not interested in a project bike....I want a sound one or none...too old to fart around with these bikes...I know them well....their virtues and vices....
I could probably fix it whatever it is.( Or if I can't I'm friends with the UK's most respected Guzzi mechanic)
..I just don't want to.......
But....it's in Devon and I'm off on the TBA Friday down there for one of my regular beer and curry weekends with a friend who runs s speedmaster
So I'll probably take a look at it then in any event.

Same but different, I had a brilliant idea to buy a modern old bike (rather than an old classic bike) to work on as a break from work.
I bought an early-90s Goldwing.
I probably had it long enough for the logbook to arrive and I flogged it

log book and flogged it. i'll translate it for the Americans ( of which i became one a few years back).

Log book- similar to a pink slip but has all previous owners listed ( or at least it did 37 yrs ago when i lived in England)

Flogged it- sold it.
Brought back a few memories, i left the UK at 25 and am now 62.

Close but no cigar. It only lists the last registered keeper.
Maybe back in your day with the old buff ones it had all the names
BTW, the lookgbook now says in large print some guff about the name on the log book is the name of the person responsible for paying the road tax and is not necessarily the owner of the vehicle !!

So, IF my math is right here, you say you've been in this country for 37 years now, eh Desmond ol' boy?! Well then, PROVE IT, dude!

(...spell the words "color" or "labor" for me here, or for THAT matter, ANY words in the language that Brits constantly insert that superfluous-u in!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Well GEEEZ, Ade ol' boy! How many times do I have to tell ya the following here, dude?!

We "simplified" the language for you guys, AND in the process, "democratized" the thing!

Although admittedly in this case, the case of "aluminum" that is, it would seem your spelling of it would be more congruent with all the other elements listed on the Periodic table, huh. And so I'll grant ya this one here, anyway.

(...but still, give me ONE good reason for that superfluous-u of yours and one that isn't solely based upon the thought of "tradition", and I promise I'll never speak of this again...well, maybe anyway)

Actually, and you'll be proud of me here, I was thinking about our use of the 'U' recently.
Actually, not just the 'U' but the whole 'ough'. Why isn't 'through' spelt 'throo'?
Rough? What's wrong with ruff? Hell! Go for ruf!! Trough = Troff.

I am of course, basing this on some of the utter CRAP spelling so often seen these days ...

Ah! Now THAT'S a whole other kettle of "phish" here, Ade!

Yep, so now you're touching upon things such as how is it the marque of motorcycle this famous guy who made his mark in Arabia during WWI is shown riding(and of course the marque of motorcycle he would ultimately meet his maker upon) is pronounced "Bruff Superior", and whereas it's spelled "Brough Superior"!

(...crazy language we share, isn't it Brough, err...isn't it Bro!)

Well Brough was the makers name so I guess that's why.

Like the comedy show "Keeping up appearances"[I don't know if it was shown in the U.S.] where the Ladys Name is Bucket she insists It's pronounced " Bookay"

Dinosaur.

Talking of which .... I saw one of the new ones last week at a roadside cafe which pretty much gets taken over by bikes at weekends.
I absolutely love Brough Superiors and I doubted the idea of a 'new' one but it is gorgeous.

New ones are around £53,000 (around $64,000).
That's a steal when you consider an original SS100 is maybe £230,000+ ($280,000) ...

Six figure price tags on cars never interested me (ok, maybe an Aston Martin) but I always promised myself that if I won it big on the lottery I'd hunt an SS100 down.
There are several in our National Motorcycle Museum

... I always promised myself that if I won it big on the lottery I'd hunt an SS100 down.
There are several in our National Motorcycle Museum

Brough Superior
National Motorcycle Museum

Back in 2007 at the British & European Classic Motorcycle Day there was one in running order. A group of grown men ran along with it as it motored around. I was one of them! It sounded amazing. The Barber Museum in Alabama has one on static display.

I'm with you, when I get crazy rich, I'm getting one!

I had a leaflet through recently from the National Motorcycle Museum.
They do a few events a year where you can pay to ride a classic bike for the day.
SS100 was £750 ($900) for the day. Money well spent I say
Just wish I could've gone !
They have about 5-6 on static display in the Museum.
