So, I'm thinking of doing the ape hanger thing on my America, and I have a few ???s for those that went before me. First off, can I go with 10 inchers without replacing the cables and or brake lines and adding to the wiring? Secondly, if I go with 12 inchers, which is really all I want as a max height for the apes, what are the best and cheapest lengthened cables and where do you get them and how much over do I need? Does the wiring need to be lengthened and spliced, or is there enough stuffed into the headlight bucket? I had 12-inch apes on my '06 Road Star and all I had to do was get a plus-4 inch upper brake hose. I ran the cables and wires behind the triple tree and there was plenty extra that way. Can this be done with a 2012 America? Thanks in advance for any and all help/responses.

Mike

I was just able to make 8" chumps with stock America risers work safely with only having to buy a plus 6" extended clutch cable and rerouting the brake hose to the right side (only works with Speedmasters) and moving the throttle cables to the right side of the frame spine. Good luck with 10 inchers, if you need longer controls, be safe and buy what you need. I should mention the wires to the headlight just reached far enough with the 8" Chumps. Let us know how it works out.

J&P Cycles will have the brake line and fittings, measure what you have and add the difference for length. You can get any look and color brake line you want and fittings to go with it. They have AN3 fittings that you need for brakes to be safe and legal. The banjo fittings are 10mm and available in different angles. Do same with cables, measure yours and add the difference. Barnett can make them for you and there are others that can too. Used to be able to buy endless cables and solder your own but haven't seen those in a while.
