Hi all,

I have an '05 SM with the 865cc engine. At about 3200 rpm, I'm getting a pretty noticeable vibration from the engine (doesn't matter what gear). So, before I go back to the dealer, has anyone else experienced this?

Take it in to the dealer. I suspect its carbs out of balance but its warranted let them check it out to ensure its nothing bad. Could also be an igniter issue. Just my thoughts on it.

What Satxron said. Also could be a loose engine mount or an odd electrical problem.

Thanks for the welcome. I've been lurking here for a while, really enjoying the forums. This is my 3rd Triumph ('68 T120 chopper; '76 T140V; and the '05 SM) and definitely the most fun so far. From what I've been able to find, there can be any number of causes for this vibration (carb synch, chain tension, sprocket alignment, loose bolts, etc.), and it seems to be a pretty common problem over the entire Hinckley Triumph range. I'm going to go over everything on Monday. I'll post anything I find. The bike just had its 600 mile service, so I hope it's not the carbs, but, who knows?

Because you've said DOESN'T MATTER WHAT GEAR, I'll assume you have no vibration whith the engine running at 3200rpm, with the bike standing still.
I'd check the tension of your chain on a bike lift or such. Check it through full rotation - many rotations. You may have a dodgy chain - stretched at some point, even after 600 miles. A tight spot will be "felt" through the engine. It would come and go, a repetitive drone/vibration.
Any easy check if you can get the back wheel off the ground.

When I washed my bike today I thought on your problem some more.
Although you said 3200rpm, ANY GEAR, I'd still check your rear wheel for missing balancing weights. Sounds wrong 'cos the balancing weights are speed related, NOT "RPM in any gear" related, but as I'm at a loss - check anyway. You'll see left over double sided tape perhaps if any were there that aren't now.
Otherwise.... I'm all out of suggestions
