Quote: Discontinuing the Thunderbird would be a huge mistake. The only thing the Thunderbird needs is to be restyled. It already has the right displacement/torque and a good handling chassis so the expensive part is done. Come on Triumph just expand the Thunderbird line and make a moderate investment in these bikes that have remained on the market virtually unchanged since they were introduced in 2009. Can't see the over the top Rocket having more potential than the Thunderbird.
But the Thunderbird was restyled with the Commander and LT lines. The frame was stretched and the engine displacement increased. They simply don't seem to sell even though they look great and ride well. There are a lot on the market for dirt cheap, even in Canada. I hope Triumph keeps a bike in the 1600/1700 range to compete with the rest of the gang.
One dealer I spoke to stated that Triumph is placing more focus on developing new bikes with better fit and finish so they can increase the price. They want the public to EXPECT to pay more. Isn't that the way many BMW owners feel. You pay for quality.
Oh, I love the fact that the Rocket is over the top....that's why I bought one. Looking forward to the new model which the grapevine states should be out in 2019.
