So far as I'm concerned all the stories are just that.
The real Arthur is likely to have been Artorius Ambrosianus...a sixth century warlord in the post Roman chaos of England.
Son of Aurelius Ambrosianus...who himself is likely to have provoked the original Saxon invasion by refusing to contribute to a common defence of the various petty kingdoms in England. at the time.
But I doubt all that would make for good cinema.
