Guys, if you think it's not producing and you plan to replace it just cut harness and leave enough to splice it back together, if you ever need to do that one day. That's what I did, guess what never needed that old unit again.
I did the Mosfet replacement a few years ago. On of the best decisions I've made on the America as I've never had charging issues since. I do recall I had to fab a small bracket as the new units mounting holes do not quite line up with the frame bracket. No big deal.
