Ok guys, this weekend I am finally going to have some time to start taking apart my 03 790 and doing some mods to my 06 865 . The 790 cams are definitely going into the 865 and I am putting on Epco exhaust with my Samson Vrod baffles that are more free flowing than the standard Epco baffles. I have a Freak ARK on my 03 790. Since the 790 cams are going into the 865 and they are hotter and I am putting on a fairly free flowing exhaust is there any reason to keep the air box in place and modifying it or am I better served just installing the Freak since I already have it?

Have a read HERE to see the difference between airbox mods and pod filters. The testing was on an EFI bike, but the trends hold true for carb bikes too.

stay with the airbox there is only about 3% difference (more with pods) for the cost of pods is it worth it to chase 3% more airflow ? My machine :- 09' America std cams, 904 wiseco big bore kit, 10-1 compression, Cylinder head ported, Air box gutted out, No AIS (total removal) Foran short pipes, front springs with emulators, rear springs (Ikon) spot lights trailer tow hitch and much more work/mods done. now getting about 70/75 rear wheel horse power...!

I disagree, I think it to be worth it if you do other mods along with it on a stock engine. I did and a few other things like blue printing and such and I was called a liar when I posted the HP and TQ I got on the dyno. Tuning is everything with any mod. You may see less difference with the injuection, that I can't speak to as I don't run or work on those.

It's been posted, I'm not getting into that argument again.

You must have missed part of my original post, I already have the air box removal kit and pod filters from another bike of mine that was totaled out. It would actually cost me more to stay with the air box as I would have to buy a DNA filter, bell mouth, and appropriate jets. Keeping the air box also makes it more of a pain to work on the carbs in my opinion. There is also the storage space gained from eliminating the air box as the kit I have on the other bike is the Freak with the storage box.
