Just thought I would let everyong know. I ordered my pipes last week. Today I got a note from Thunderbike letting me know that they are in the process of overhauling the packaging process so my pipes will be a little slower getting here than normal. Good news though considering everyone has talked about their concerns with the way they were packaged and some damaged in shipping. I'll let you know the results when they get here.

Jason, Just ordered them last week! Got a note about a run of speedmaster pipes, new packageing and 2 weeks,....Then to see how long it takes to get here. Keep us informed of your experience. What kind of RTV Silicone are you planning on during the install? (I know very little about it....) Oh the joy of waiting on the BBT (Big Brown Truck).....

With my replacement set on the way, that makes 3 of us waiting for the BBT! I didn't use silicone on my current TBs and don't have any leaks, so I don't know if it is absolutely necessary. The most difficult part of the swap is removing the front hex bolt on each hanger; it's LocTited in at the factory. For some odd reason, the rear bolt on each hanger came out easy. I simply drilled out the center of each problem child and it popped free.

I got mine in about 6 working days... I got them last friday but unfortunately they were both damaged. I sent along a letter and pix of pipes to the folks at Thunderbike and received an answer the next day. They said they are revising their packaging system and will ship me a new set of pipes in a couple of weeks. Furthermore, they said they would reimburse the return shipping cost of the damaged ones upon receipt. Can't beat for customer service....

Angus, I got a set of Thunderpipes last fall and I'm not sure that RTV is necessary. I put some on mine, but most was squished back out when I fitted the pipes. There are no leaks. I just used the regular, clear Permatex brand. That far away from the exhaust port I don't believe there is any need for any high heat type. If you do use it, use it SPARINGLY, because you're going to end up wiping most of it back off anyway! P.S. - I LOVE the pipes too, they make the bike sound awesome!

If nothing else, I hope they make their packaging system easier to unwrap. I got mine last fall and I think it took longer to unwrap them than it did to install. They arrived in flawless condition though, but I have to admit your experience is an example of outstanding customer service.

I'm not sure what kind of silicone I'm going to use yet. This will be my first time doing anything like this.
I do agree with you grump, seeing a company actually do something about a problem is a rare thing and makes dealing with them all the more pleasant.

I had to wait quite a while too, but it was because they were waiting for pipes to come back from the chrome platers, so they're at the platers mercy as much as we are. Once they shipped, it only took a few days to get here. Well worth the wait though.

The replacements arrived yesterday and I swapped them out today. The packaging is much better with a real sturdy curogated box this time and some styrofoam on the ends. The new pipes are beautiful and I'll be sending the damaged ones back this week. The TB folks have been very helpful resolving this matter and I would highly recommend them if you decide the TB pipes are your ticket.

Order mine on March 15th. And still waiting for them to ship. The good part is that the exchange rate has droped the US Dollar amount under $700.00.

Warren, any word from NZ on your order? I got an email last week stating they were ready for shipping, and have actually been tracking them on NZpost.co.nz. They're in customs in the States at last checkin. I assume from reading between the lines there's a few sets that are being sent all at the same time, I think you and I ordered about the same time.
Like you say, still waiting.....
cheers, Mike

Last I heard they were ready and waiting on shipping materials. I ordered 3/3/05. Riding season is excellent in SW VA this time of year. Tracking them would at least make me feel better..... Can you imagine customs? "What is tube-like, metal, about 40" long....packaged very carefully......." hmmmmmmmm and what is this for? heheheheheheh.... How are the Twin Cities?

Things decent here, been riding for about 3 weeks I guess-about 300 miles. First day out went 100, then just shuttling to/from work 12 miles/day. Also one quick trip to the local dealer to order the touring pillion, which is not here yet either.... #@%&((*&^!!!!! Give Jason an email parts@thunderbike.co.nz maybe he can give you a shipping # to track?? The email he sent me went straight to the junk bin, I wouldn't have seen it except another friend told me he had sent a tasteless joke and I found it there also. Oh yeah, customs... told the guys at work they were stuck in customs, he asked if the mufflers were grass-packs. Yuck-yuck. Cheers, Mike

THEY CAME! The USPS delivered a very secure looking package from NZ and the kid is just too excited! I think I'll just carry them around for a while in the box, so everyone knows their improted all the way from NZ! I'm so excited (breaks into song and does the traditional dance of joy)
