Oddly, I had a '76 (= AMF years, supposedly terrible quality) Sportster XLCH kick start only (supposedly bottom of the line terrible quality). I would rebuild the top end at 90K+ mile intervals. Half way between top end 2 and 3, the ignition advance mechanism wore out and had to be replaced. Finally, at around 400K miles, the mrs talked me into giving it to my grandson or I'd probably still be riding it.
